This isn't even an ASMR video and I'm dozing off. Not because I'm bored, either! There's something about your voice and personality that is just so comforting. That being said, your nails are beautiful! I've never went to have my nails done, so I've always wondered how people were able to remove their cuticles. Mine give me such a hard time. Now I know what to get for them! Thanks for this video.

That's formaldehyde baby. And there's nothing wrong with that. It makes sense since formaldehyde preserves dead things, and the white free edge of your nail is dead. It's pretty much the only thing that can harden your actual nail plate. Just don't apply it to your nail beds(the pink part) too often, or your whole nail will detach. I learned that the hard way.
@savannahdarnell9882
8 жыл бұрын
So I should let my nails grow out until I can see the dead white part first, and then use this? My nails are very, very short and there's no white part at all!! I hate them :/
@anne853
8 жыл бұрын
@Meme Queen -You could do that, but what has helped my nails grow the longest they've ever been is nail oil. When I found out that oil makes your nails strong and resistant to breaking, I was stupefied. I thought oil was only for cuticles. But Doug Schoon has a nail anatomy textbook that explains how certain oil molecules are small enough to penetrate into the deep layers of your nail plate, sealing them together to make them very strong and resistant to splitting and breaking. I oil mine three times a day, and they just don't break anymore. It's stupid how long they get now. Jojoba oil absorbs the fastest, but almond oil, coconut oil, olive oil, and many others also work. Formaldehyde polishes like Nail Envy do work, but I don't use them anymore only because I don't need to. Oil works better.
@savannahdarnell9882
8 жыл бұрын
anne853 Thank you so much! One more question, where can I get jojoba oil at?
@anne853
8 жыл бұрын
@Meme Queen -You can get jojoba oil at some grocery stores and pharmacies. I get mine at Whole Foods and Trader Joes. Ordering it online is a little cheaper. Either way, it's not very expensive. And it last a long time. A little goes a long way.

@Dunstgloeckchen

I just wanted to say that I bought the nail hardener and it says really clearly in the leaflet that you should NOT put it under the nail! Your skin can be damaged by that really badly. Also you should use it just 2x a month, when the nails are as hard as you want them to be.
@BuriedTeeth

First off I'd just like to say you have helped me get through so many anxiety attacks, long sleepless nights and late night study sessions. As a medical student indentations or thin brittle nails indicates a thyroid problem. Nail cuticles prevent bacteria and other harmful pathogens from entering the nail bed (ultimately the body) and causing infection, it's ok to push back the cuticle but cutting the cuticle off offers pathogens an wide open door into your body.

You should apply Vaseline or some sort of barrier on your skin around your nail before you use the mavala. Other wise over a long period of time it will absolutely make you skin hard. It is a fantastic hardner, but you need to be very careful with it.
@simpleton2090
5 жыл бұрын
shelley Louise I know I am replying to a three year old comment but you never know who this might help! You are absolutely right that it will completely harden your skin. I used Rejuvacote which has formaldehyde in and it hardened my cuticles so much that they actually tore and it was horrible. When I would cut them off the skin would sort of shrink back if that makes sense..(like a deceased person). These products can definitely be harmful in the long run. I hope Maria has found a healthier alternative to this.

Well, you've definitely got gorgeous natural nails! They look fantastic!! I'm not sure how you say they're thin and brittling and bending! Mine are like that !! Very thin and brittling and you can bend them any time, I rip them away myself when they start breaking - that's how breakable and soft they are!! I applied all kinds of hardeners (not this one from your video, I cant find it in my country), I applied them both under and on top and still they started brittling just when I was thinking I'd succeeded in making them harder. So I gave up and dont do anything to them anymore. Your nails are simply fabulous , all the more they are 100% natural!

I've had that hardener for ages and I've never really given it a shot. It seemed so watery I didn't think it was doing anything - I'll go back and try it again now you have recommended it! (For anyone else in the UK- you can buy it at Boots) The main ingerdient is formaldehyde which makes sense when you think about it being used to preserve dead things I guess as nails are actually dead keratin. Also Maria, this was super tingly, I know you don't like to put simple low tech videos on your main channel but you should, its good! If you are worried about comments maybe call it low-fi like whispers red did a series of recently. Thank you so much for making these. For those reading old comments about the Mavala nail hardener and are deciding against buying it: the new formula does NOT contain formaldehyde!!! Just be careful to not apply it on your skin because it will harden it as well. I read the comments, didn’t research the ingredients and only bought it much later and I completely regret it. I haven’t bitten my nails in a long time but I couldn’t get any decent growth because they would split and break frequently. The Mavala makes the tip of my nails really hard and they don’t break anymore. I tried other nail hardeners but they didn’t work. Maria is right, this is a miracle worker.

Yellow nails are nothing to worry about; it's just staining from the polish. You should look into a peel-off base coat (Ünt's Ready for Take Off is $10 on Amazon or Live Love Polish and will allow you to easily remove gel and regular polish without using acetone. They also keep you from having to buff your nails all the time which is good because that is what thins out the nail and makes it brittle.) I'm wary of nail hardeners (if your long nails can't bend, they'll break, as you said.) My nails are so long now it's hard to type. I think just keeping some sort of polish on them helps them stay strong and grow. I follow Simply Nailogical's channel here on KZitem and she's pointed me in the direction of most of the things I use on my nails now. I love your ASMR videos!

If anyone has badly peeling nails, especially if you're over 50, you may need more iron. I had tried every strengthener on the market, and nothing helped. After over five years of terrible peeling (sometimes half down the already short nail), I discovered the issue was iron. So now take a daily iron supplement, and my nails have gotten very strong. Longer than I've ever had them.

Ok, I just bought every product you featured, on Amazon. Except the cuticle remover....that particular product you use costs $45!!! So I got a cheaper brand. Also, I bought the Nature’s Choice hair and nail vitamins as featured in your thin hair routine video. I’ve been getting gel “dipping powder” manicures every 3 weeks, which cost $35 + tip, and I’m OVER paying all that! So yeah, I spent about $60 total for every product, and that will pay for itself by 6 weeks. Thank you!

It's been argued that nail hardeners are actually bad for your nails. Using an oil like jojoba oil is supposed to be better for your nails because it makes them flexible so that they're less likely to break when under pressure while a nail hardener will harden your nails and make them inflexible, so they will be more likely to break. But if it works for you then all the better!

Funny how I have been researching nail hardeners lately and learned that Mavala has Formaldehyde. So I was a bit worried when I saw you recommend this. Even the online store I usually buy my cosmetics from has "Contains Formaldehyde" in red letters next to this product. If anyone wishes to use it, at least keep it off your skin (this is actually in the directions of the product). Use it only on the tip of the nails, DO NOT let it touch your skin.
