I read in a gardening magazine and also saw on the Epic Gardening channel that for everbearing strawberries, you pick the flowers off until early June. That gives the leaves more time to grow and develop, which helps produce more and larger strawberries for two harvestings after that. Your thoughts about this, please.

I am planning on growing strawberries this year. Well I might have to wait till next year for fruit to grow but at least I will have it started. I am in the process of finding a planting plot for them. I am deciding on what kind of bed I want to use Either classic flat bed, mounds, or even might try pots cause one no weeds, easy to move them if I have to, also I could make a anti bird cage to cover the strawberries so the birds wont get to them but I can easily lift the cage for harvesting. We also have blueberries bushes that have been producing for a few years now so having fresh blueberries with strawberries would be a dream. For me if I had the choice between candy and fresh ripe fruit I would pick fruit 100%. Anyways thank you for the video vary informative.

Sorry if this is a stupid question but does that container have drainage holes? I’ve just started gardening and have planted some herbs so far but wanna plant some strawberries this week in another container :)

Hey Alina...ALL containers have drainage holes. Standing water is a death sentence for all plants unless they are aquatic or seaweed! :-)

Hi, I followed your video a while back and grew two pots of strawberries! I didn’t get many and they were quite small, but I’ve seen in the comments that it can take a couple seasons to establish the plant. I can see that I only have a few more strawberries waiting to ripen, my question is what do I do after that? Do I move the pot into a greenhouse as is and wait until next spring to bring it out again? Sorry I am completely new to this, thanks! great video

I know I'm late, but the best thing for wintering them in pots (I've heard, I grow mine in the ground) is to bury the pot to the soil level and mulch over it. That way, it can rest naturally, without the temperature fluctuations that accompany cold wind and bright sunlight on a dark colored, exposed container. I understand this is not possible for many urbanites, so find a place with little light (or can be covered) and a steady cool temperature

@@johntheherbalistg8756 Thanks so much, this is really helpful. I see that you made a video on winterizing a few months ago, so I’ll give that a watch too. Thanks again

Most prevent their plant from fruiting and shooting out runner the first year. Some even do it for another when trying to get the best tasting yields. Where I live, they grow everywhere like weeds but I hardly see them fruit
