I just spent the past 10 or so minutes in the dark freezing my butt off replanting my "yogurt pot" summer strawberries from the greenhouse and put them all together in a larger green flower pot full of new compost and a small bit of fish bone meal. I have no idea if they will live through the winter but I will keep an eye on them. They were grown from seed too so I am proud of myself lol.

That was good. I can hardly wait to see these next time they're up. OMG Strawberries are awesome! I used to have a 16ft x 8ft bed on the east side of the house, just below the ash drop. I kept it loaded with strawberries! No one knows how much more wonderful they are when they're HOMEGROWN. Godspeed! Be blessed.

That must have produced a ton of fresh fruit for you! I agree, they are so much better when grown at home 😃

I’ve been keeping my lights on way too long. I started some bare roots with 18 hours of light. They are growing but the old leaves were getting scorched. I am going to cut them back to 8 to 12 hours and see how they do.

Great video. Straight to the point buddy! Question. I grew the mess out of strawberries a few years back. Outside of course. With a baby on the way, I’m always looking for ways to save money and become more self dependent. Could one grow fruits and veggies year round inside with a grow light? I’m thinking of converting one of my rooms to a “grow room” and would love to grow potatoes, strawberries, etc no matter the temperature outside or season. Thanks!

It's difficult but totally possible! I have a lemon tree I've been growing in thr bathroom, purely from grow lights! It's over 1 year old now, and at one point was the only plant to survive the frost. I will say, something I personally noticed with growing plants under grow lights is that it really seems the best if you keep those lights on 24/7 and maybe give it a few hours of darkness rest ever other day or two. I want to assume it's because grow lights don't work as well as the sun, and I noticed no bad effects after I stopped turning them off for night time. In fact they all immediately grew 10x better.

Full spectrum lights, LED lights work great, many quality lights are available on Amazon for $200-$300. Although you can use cheaper ones you should expect your yield to be affected. I prefer the maxsisun brand. Try to find one with an adjustable light output

Nice. Does these plants produce berries throughout the year or for a particular period (2-3 months/year) ?

depends on the variety of strawberry. Some grow in June, called Junebearing, some grow all year, everbearing

Why not just cover them with straw and leave them outside if they aren’t going to produce?

I'm throwing these indoors in A-tent with other plants that require 18 to 20 hours of light. Do you think I could overwinter these with this much light and then put them Outside in the Spring. My goal was to take the $20 single plant and be able to have 4 or 5 outside outside in the bed is it next year

Lmao if you have a tent and a light used for growing cannabis it will absolutely work for strawberries. Im growing tomatoes in my 2x3 along with some weed

I think strawberries don't fruit well or usually the first year and most cut or prevent theirs from growing the first year. Where I live, they grow on the ground everywhere here just like a weed. I don't see them fruit much but that's probably because all the birds or drug addicts.

Am I mistaken in thinking that sand should be mixed in 1/3rd of the soil blend. I have had very good resukts incorporating sand into my strawberry plants. My gravdfather had a green thumb and told me that sand is a MUST or they simply won’t survive properly.

The beautiful thing about gardening is that there are so many ways to grow and be successful, there are so many variables in the environment that guidance like this may hold 100% true in one part of the world but not the other. I have never added sand into the ground below my feet for our plants to grow so I did the same with my strawberries and they’ve flourished. Now, all that to say your grandfather could be right for his experience but that doesn’t mean it MUST be that way for others.

@@ExpeditionHomestead thank you fir the speedy response. I’m experimenting with growing them indoors for the first time. I’m just tired of buying the low quality berries at our local market. We end up throwing away more than we eat sbd for the cost, I figured I couldn’t go wrong with at least trying. Thank you for the great info you have provided in your videos. I’m located in the high mountains of West Virginia and our growing season is always so short here. I’m in the process of assembling our high tunnel to help extend our growing season by a few weeks each year. We depend on our garden to provide our family with the healthy nutrition that we need. Believe it or not but this year alone, we processed and canned nearly 700 quarts of fruits and vegetables. We give a good bit to friends snd family also. We tell everybody that we will continue giving them food if they’ll continue returning the jars that we provide. Lol good luck with everything. I was surprised to get such a speedy response. Well done.

Not sure if this is true but nonetheless I don’t expect or want them to produce fruit the first year in ground as I want them to put as much energy as possible into establishing themselves 🌿
