As a woman in “industry” who just graduated with a computer science degree in 4 years, sure you get an ego trip from time to time, but another thing is that this guy is going to crumble in industry… like when working you have to have social aptitude and self-confidence that doesn’t stem from insecurity and that guy sure doesn’t have it.
@sarahkaiser8709

Also infuriated me bc the whole thing again stems off of “being smart stem guy”=“rewarded with hot girl who worships my brain” which sure doesn’t happen when you’re a woman in stem
@randomguy019

The problem, as I see it, is that a bunch of guys in STEM education programs aren't the most traditionally, socially masculine guys. BUT, they still put a lot of stock into the worldview that come associated with that (dominance, power, superiority, etc.) To bridge the cognitive dissonance between how they feel about themselves and what they believe, they make exceptions for themselves, framing their non-traditionally masculine actions as a means to masculine ends (financial power, strong social capital, etc.) And that worldview creates shit like the first story.

Josh's and erica's take on the non binary pal and the boyfriend was good. The facts that he isn't cool with them doing with men but is fine with them having it with women he might not view it has like a legit thing. And totally agree that the male community and society in general over sexualized bi and lesbians. I do think the comment might have been from biophobia (coming from a bisexual)

For the story with the nonbinary pal and their boyfriend: as a nonbinary lesbian, the boyfriend made me feel a little icky. I think his intention of trying to be open is good, but the fact that he isn’t cool with them having sex with other men but is cool with them having sex with women is still rooted in the fact that he doesn’t view sex/relationships between women/afabs as legit, which is actually a very common thing (think of men who are fine with their gfs making out with women while drunk at a party but not with men). As a society, lesbians ARE overly sexualized, but bi women/afabs are often treated as just “spicy straight” and aren’t taken seriously if they are dating a woman/afab person. Overall, I do think his comment is rooted in sexism and biphobia, even if he didn’t mean for it to be, and he 100% needs to reevaluate his thoughts and attitude towards his partner sleeping with women.
@nephetfields9722
2 жыл бұрын
I was gonna jump in and say this. Absolutely right it devalues same sex relationships. In polyamory it would be called an opp which is generally a red flag. There is no difference in what gender you date. In an opp your putting the restriction strictly on genitals. Which in itself is wrong and excludes trans women. Also where does Ace fall in this logic?

I have to ask as a guy who has encouraged my female partner to explore that side of her sexuality before. I wouldn't want my partner to sleep with other men because she has me its a different feeling being replaced vs with women that experience is something I can't do for her so if that is something she wants to explore I encourage it. I don't know is that still icky?
@sapphicavenger9429
2 жыл бұрын
@@kyle6899 I think it really depends on your intention behind it, and I think the fact that you’re already self-reflecting and thinking about that is a good thing! With the guy above, it’s more about how he’s discussing it and approaching it that made me uncomfortable, however, at the end of the day, whatever that boyfriend and his partner agree to is their business, and it’s the same for you and your gf. I think for yourself, just make sure you really do think critically think about your own thoughts and intentions, and how you view sapphic relationships. If you feel comfortable that your openness with your gf is about her being able to explore that part of her sexuality, and has nothing to do with subconscious invalidation of sapphic relationships, then I don’t think there’s necessarily anything wrong with that, but if there’s any part of you that, even if it’s just a conditioned response, is okay with it because you just view men as more of a threat than women to your relationship, even though she’s attracted to both, maybe sit with that and think about why you feel that way. I think it could be good to also consider where non-cis people fit into this. Trans women can have penises, but they’re still women. Would you be comfortable with her sleeping with a trans woman? Why or why not? How do nonbinary people fit into this? Would you be okay with her having sex with an afab person but not an amab person? If so, why is that? I know I threw a lot at you, but I think these are all important things to consider, since this is a topic that’s a lot more complex and nuanced than I think a lot of people realize.
@mattc1143

I’m curious tho, would dating a man vs a woman be inherently different? Generally speaking, men and women have different thought process and behave differently, hints “all men”. So wouldn’t it be natural to feel like another man would be replacing you, where as a female would be a different type of relationship that fulfills something different for them. Maybe I’m just an ignorant white cis monogamous man. I don’t disagree with most of what you are saying, I just think the two types of relationships are naturally gonna be different but not one less valid than another. Edit: I read the other comments 🙂 so no need to respond unless you wanted to add something different.

I get where Josh is coming from. Like it’s cool that he wants to be support of his partner but he might think he’s ok w/ his partner sleeping with a woman because he isn’t threatened by women “taking” his partner from him. But realistically if you aren’t comfortable w/ a poly relationship or open relationship you won’t be comfortable with it regardless of who your partner is with. And that does stem from Bi-Erasure (?). Hope they can keep that line of communication open!

Honestly, I think the OP in the last story should ditch BOTH her best friends. One is a cheater and seems to have comittment issues, whereas the best friend was aware of OP's feelings for "Sam" (probably the reason she kept their hangouts without her a secret) and yet chose to persue him behind her back until OP found out THEN she asked OP if it would be okay. Both are seemingly bad people.

I don’t necessarily agree with your take on the non-binary person with a boyfriend. I don’t think there’s anything harmful about it. The way I see it is that the boyfriend is aware that he cannot provide everything that his partner wants sexually, so he is okay with them seeking it out in other people. It sounds like he’s not interested in being polyamorous himself, he just wants his partner to be happy and have open conversation about sexual needs that are unmet (in this case, with women). It COULD be something harmful, but that’s honestly not the vibe I got right away. It just sounds like he’s okay with his partner having sexual relations with women, because it is something he cannot provide himself being a man and he still wants his partner to be satisfied.
@asmrtpop2676

Poly + mono is a thing but him only being ok with partner seeing non-men is super bi erasing. If he isn’t uncomfortable with all or comfortable with all then ehhhh he needs to break up and explore why tf he’s like that. Maybe he shouldn’t date multisexual or poly people.

In my head it makes sense to not be as intimidated by the gf having a woman on the side vs a man on the side. I would think inherently a relationship between 2 women is gonna be quite different from a man and a woman, so it would feel less like she is potentially replacing you and more like she is just looking for something a little different as well. Clearly that would show some level of insecurity with it all but I think that would just be natural at first. But maybe I’m just an ignorant white cis monogamous man.
