Catfish Mustang GT 2018 is the only one year model face-lifted with that plug and play swap available from 15-16 GT350 Non-oil pump TR-3160. 2019 Catfish and up are from 21-22 MACH 1 TR-3160 with no other option. Those newer 3160's are only equipped with an internal oil pump.

What do you mean by this? Are you pointing out that there are two types of TR-3160 or that there is a plug and play oil cooler for the non-internal oil pump older transmissions? If that's the case, I want one! Trans temps are too hot when you beat on it in the Mojave desert

You should add a sealant to the drain plug as it is recommended to do. That's what the red/orange stuff is on the plug from the factory.

That's up to you, wouldn't hurt to. I've serviced the fluid 2 times now on my car as well as a few other cars and never added any sealant and it's never leaked.

I used regular white Teflon (TPFE) tape. Haven’t had issues, but usually replace it every time I change the trans fluid/gear oil. Other than that, someone suggested I use thread sealant paste, but it seemed way too messy and hard/impossible to clean; not to mention the potential contamination of the oil/fluid that it’s attempting to contain.

Couldn't tell you but these are really made to just be drained and filled, super simple. Plus the only way the machine works is if the trans is turning, but the only way to get the proper fluid level in the trans is with it off so there's that

Very informative! I also have a GT350. Mine is a 2017 GT350R. Can you do a tutorial video on how to do a coolant flush/filled on a GT350?

I could, I just don't plan on doing that anytime soon as my coolant is still good. I'm running Amsoils premixed coolant. Been so since around 2000 miles. It's been through alot of abuse but still is holding up. Process would be, release the reservoir cap, removed the radiator drain or lower radiator hose. Drain, re installed drain or hose, fill to the max. Start and idle the car. Turn on max heat and let it run for 10 minutes or so until it gets up to temp, top off as needed.

@@THEDriverMod_ Ok, my GT350R has 13,000 miles and still has the original coolant. According to the owner's manual, the coolant will need replacing at the 5 year mark. Therefore, I will change my coolant next year. I was just wondering if there are any issues with air pockets developing when refilling with new coolant on the GT350. Thanks for the information.

Not really. I just elevate the front of the car when bleeding. Because I track my car several times a year, I don't really go by the manual. Mines a 2016, I'm now at 19.5k miles on it.

I have a 22 Mach 1 with the Tremec/cooler. I plan on servicing my trany soon and appreciate the video. I assume I have the same cooler and will need to perform the extra step. Do you have a rear differential cooler? Any extra steps to servicing that unit? Thanks!

My tr3160 on 2019 gt350R is leaking brake/tranny fluid. I thought it was my clutch line cause I felt my clutch get worse and worse. It’s not the clutch line. When I go to pump the clutch after changing the clutch line fluid just leaks out the tranny. Could this be throw out bearing?

Thanks dude! Yea that’s so unfortunate. I felt slipping. I also would feel my clutch not come back up when I pressed it down especially high rpm! Thanks for the info and thanks for all your videos ! Wish there was a good Ford dealer in New York. I’ll go Ahead and maybe attempt this job myself.

Does it have a reservoir for the clutch? I think it’s a hydraulic clutch right? My 911 had one and when I exchanged the brake fluid I did that small reservoir for the clutch as well. THANK YOU for these vids!!!!

Has the shift feel improved at all with the amsoil? I used it in my 2010 civic si and it just shifted so buttery smooth .. It was the mtf though . Did the oil give you any noticeable change in shift feel?

Did the amsoil improve the cold fluid shifting? The Ford fluid has notchyness going into second gear till the fluid is warm .. How does the amsoil compare when cold and hot .. I want to do this but want to make sure it improves cold shift feel Thanks so much!

Mine feels that same going into every gear when cold and when hot. You might have a detention the shifting Roald that is getting stuck when cold and frees up when it's warm. Transmission fluid won't solve that it most cases

Interesting are you in a warm climate .. And most importantly, did you have many miles on the Ford fluid to get the feel of it or did you switch to amsoil very early on .. Every gt350 I experience has a small knotchyness when shifting to second the very first time when the oil is cold .. After your first row through the gears 2nd slides in easily .. So it's not a prob but kind of an OCD thing for me lol. It was the same on my Civic SI . I changed to amsoil and second was smooth as glass but 3rd would push back on me so I put in redline and it was the perfect match .. Every gear butter

I am in Florida, I've experienced what you're talking about it other gt350s but never in mine, been running amsoil in my gt350 since 6k miles. I'm at 24k miles now never had any issues

I believe the manual or somewhere I read was 500 track miles for transmission and diff. I don't recall where though.

Likely not, could be the clutch starting to slip or "chatter" do to the slave cylinder starting to fail.

Did you get it used? I've done a couple clutches with less than 10k on them, I track mine alot and have 20k on the original clutch. Just hit or miss, I wouldn't stress about it.

@@THEDriverMod_ I did get it used. Had 3400 on it then it sat for a year when I went to Korea. Only drive it on weekdays to work which is two miles from the house. It's weird since its only with first gear. Theres no slippage when in high hear and gear shifts are smooth. Thanks again for replying. Sub'd

First gear is gonna have the highest torque multiplier so if it's only if first gear that's usually chatter. Try starting off in second gear and see what happens. And thank you! I was in Korea for a year when I was in the Marines !!

Nice video. Are you sure it's required to idle in gear? I thought one only needed to let it idle in neutral with the clutch out?

Ford manual says clutch engaged in gear if I'm not mistaken. I read it 2 weeks ago right before I did the service. I work at the dealership so I have access to all of it. If I read it wrong, won't hurt to do it in gear

@@asleepatthewheel974 as you can see in the video, I didn't have to top it off after I did it anyway so the amount of bleeding must be minimal, really not sure it's even nessacary for the drain and fill, now if you had the cooler lines disconnected than sure, but not for a straight drain and fill.

This will be my next service on my GT350, great tutorial, I only have a question about the idling in gear like you do, forgive me if I’m not understanding, but is your foot on the clutch pedal the whole time? It looks like you weren’t on the pedal at the point when you turn to look at the wheel. I guess what I’m asking is during the procedure do I keep the clutch pedal all the way to the floor, or let it out as if it was on the ground and “moving”? Hope that makes sense.

Let your foot off the pedal, if all your wheels are off the ground, put it in gear if you want too

Lol It’s hilarious how people will use those measly hand pumps for pumping over a gallon+ of fluid/oil….. Unless you’re deliberately aiming to work out, build a custom siphon pump. I found a huge pool toy-like manual siphon pump at my local Autozone. It came with clear hosing for the inlet side, but none for the outlet side. Ended up getting some radiator hosing or something similar, and secured it with a typical small screw hose clamp. I can now easily pump whatever transmission I want. However, cleaning and preventing contamination is super important. I don’t use the pump for old oils and fluids; and nor do I use the pump, without flushing, to use for separate oils and fluids.
