Remember that the Toyota TS050 in Gran Turismo 7 is the 2016 car. Also it’s not the low-drag "Le Mans" version… Kobayashi’s laptime came from his driving, Toyota’s updated 2017 car, and the special Le Mans low-drag bodywork. It makes sense that you would have more downforce, but lack top speed because you’re driving the 2016 "base" version of the Toyota TS050, rather than the 2017 "Le Mans" specific, low-drag specification.

Great vid Doughty, awesome comparison. I love my GT7 and to be fair to PD, they have 427 cars to try to replicate. I actually thought it wasn't too far off. The real car was a bit quicker, the GT car a bit grippier. Can PD really be expected to get all the cars exactly right? In GT5 a mate and I tried to beat the Porsche 919 record around Nordshleife(I know I spelled that wrong, sorry) of 6.19 and could only manage a 6.25. We found out later the Porsche mechanics 'threw out the rulebook' with that one. We never stood a chance :) In the end, we were pretty chuffed to get within 6 seconds in an underpowered machine. Keep up the great work mate.

Nice video and well put together!! My initial thoughts were that in the real lap its likely they were running a qualifying mode on the engine and battery for the 3.14 as its was qualifying Toyotas best race lap in the 2016 le man 24 was a 3.21.4 but I can't find any footage with telemetry to see what speed they were doing on the straights in race trim. Reckon if you had tyres and fuel on you would have been pretty close to a 3.21.4

It's good to know that roleplaying is possible. About a year ago, I spent 3 months training to beat Senna's 1'40 around Suzuka lol. Some people say that it's unrealistic, and that "you can never be like those super drivers". Well, IRL it's scarier, more physically demanding, and you get limited practice seat time, but the raw driving technique is definitely there, right? If the RL record is also tough to beat in the game, as is the case with most of these sim games, I think that they must be correct, hehe. Good video, thanks for uploading!!

Great video! IRL there are so many variables, I think it would be extremely difficult to get a true 1 to 1 SIM on console. GT7 is by far the best console SIM available by a long shot though. That said, there are still things missing setup wise. One example being fast and slow adjustment in suspension damping, PD only has one Damping setting for expansion and compression, a real race suspension has two. One setting called fast, which affects how the car reacts to bumps in the surface, another called slow, which affects how the car reacts under high Gs (heavy braking, high speed cornering) this alone can complete alter the behavior of any car under different circumstances.
