When I was a kid, I saw this in China and wanted to play with it. A few months later, someone came back from overseas and gave my dad and electronic handheld calculator. After he did what he had to do. He handed it to me to play for a while. Ever since, I was hooked with electronics and computers. I also saw these mechanical computers were being used as cash registers here in America in the 70s. Seriously, I think a computing ruler is faster.

My neighbour's life totally changed by a Casio calculator, accounting in his own words. Back in the late '70s in China, this talent was serving as artillery, whose main task was to improve the shooting accuracy by a kind of calculation using the observer’s results. His unit was once challenging to find the guy who could do the calculation job fastest and most accurate, the winner could become a cadet in the military school. This guy was the final winner after he converted a Casio calculator into a cannon calculator. He was mentioning that he did a kind of break jail or programming in the calculator by self-study with limited resources and support from outside.
