Masaya Kamei is a 19yr-old pianist and winner of the two most prestigious piano competitions in Japan. This is his 1st Rach 3 with an orchestra comprising young Japanese musicians, yet he plays this piece, definitely one of the most difficult piano concertos, as if it were his 100th performance! Gorgeous bass sounding, romantic phrasing in lyrical sections, effortless and smooth movements of his hands even in technically demanding sequences, etc..... Masaya always amazes me!

Masaya was my favorite of all the competitors in the Cliburn completion, and I was very disappointed that he was not named a finalist. I hope to be listening to this brilliant pianist for many years to come!

@@franceskohut7923 Masaya has been and will be my all time favorite pianist, so I feel you about the disappointment. You know, the result was not necessarily the place he had wished for, but Masaya is a forward-looking young man and very happy that after the Cliburn, he has a lot of new great fans across the world like you!!

I hope I will be able through UTube to follow his career and hear future recordings of performances. I have listened and watched his recitals and Mozart concerto many times. He is is so musical, and I am taken with his personality at the keyboard.

Masaya was my choice to win the Cliburn competition. His musicality inspires me to listen to his recitals over and over. I will follow him from now on and could not understand why he was not among the finalists!

His Mazepa wasn't really impressive at the Cliburn. You can see the live reaction on that piece. Anna and Choni already had beat him at the other competition. But Masaya was certainly better than Clayton and Illya.

I am going to wish Kamei great luck doing just that right now and here.👏💯
Although Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 3 is a Russian piano concerto, Masaya left a Japanese feeling in the song with a wonderful interpretation, which impressed me. Masaya's Rachmaninoff is quietly filled inside with a flame of passion. Masaya’s sound is full of affection as well as his fierce and masculine personality. His music is filled with the sparkle of life. I guarantee Masaya's piano sheds light on this stagnant society and brings happiness to people who hope for world peace.
His clean and crisp articulation reminds me of Yuja Wang's playing and that says a lot about Masaya's playing. At places he seemed a little choppy but at age 19 still bravo to him. I anticipate a bright future for him as a concertizing pianist.
Another terrific performance of this most wonderful creation by another young pianist… kudos also to this most excellent group of orchestral musicians. Same for the audio and video crew.
