Ogose Bairin is a plum grove that stretches along the Koshibe River in Ogose Town, Iruma District, Saitama Prefecture. It is considered one of the three major plum groves in Kanto, along with Mito Kairakuen and Atami Plum Garden. The park is approximately 2 hectares in size and is home to approximately 1,000 plum trees, including the old ``Kaisetsu'' tree, which is over 670 years old, as well as Shirakaga, Kobai, and Oshino plum trees. Including the area around the plum grove, approximately 20,000 plum trees are in full bloom during the blooming season.
It is said that the origin of Ogose plums dates back to around 1350, when a plum tree was planted in honor of Sugawara no Michizane when the shrine was enshrined at the current Umezono Shrine from Dazaifu in Kyushu.
In the Meiji period, it attracted attention as a tourist destination and attracted many literary figures and artists, and in 1901, the poet and Japanese literary scholar Sasaki Nobutsuna came to visit and said, ``The Irumagawa River crosses the Koma River and comes from the capital.'' It preserves the ``sweet plum garden''.
