First I love your hostas and Japanese fountain glass and coral Bell , there are 3 Hostas farm around GTA we should go there to take a look , they have about 2000 different hostas . and they are those called " Blue hosta " they have very waxy foliage , I have this one call " mini mouse " hosta I love it so much , and it never get eaten by slug , mainly blue hosta have very taught and waxy foliage , it is very slug resistant , I travel to Toronto Island and over there are very wet and a lot of flood , they have this hosta called " Bressingham blue hosta " grow in a quite mosit garden but they dont have slug eating the, ,. so you can try to grow blue hosta if you worry they are slug attacked . Here my suggestion : 1 ) Using some wooden logs - go to beach to pick up some logs , or pick some dead tree branches , make it wet , and in the morning tip over to check the bottom , those slug like to crawl in a dark , wet surface , so you will see them in the morning . 2 ) using card board , cut it in a big pieces , soak it and leave at your garden bed and tip over in the morning you will also get slug also . 3) go to buy Slug bait , it is a kind of poison , but it does not smell , and not danger to wild life or pet , slug will consume it , and it will kill them , but you have to use it when there is not rain for that week. .
