In this episode of Ocean Talks, I want to bring attention to a topic that seems to be flying under the radar to anyone outside the dive community. It's a situation that could very likely be detrimental to the Eastern Pacific coast white shark population.
The closure of Guadalupe Island, combined with external factors that include illegal fishing activities, the lack of a human presence at the island, and the growing business of organized crime embracing illegal trade could spell a disaster for the largest great white sharks on the planet.

00:07:43- The Closure
For this episode, I conducted independent research, interviews, and spoke with tour operations. I even met with an ex-fishermen who admitted to catching at least 9 great white sharks in his time fishing.
There is no official comment from the Mexican Government.
