Ego in the comic book wasn't Peter's father and quill wasn't a offshoot of the celestials. The celestial by the way are giant to universe sizes Beings made out of a metal material which may be antimantium which covers wolverine skeleton. Peter was part of the sparta race which power scaling fit under the Olympians like Zeus but a higher tier than the asgardians. Also in the post credit scene with the team at the end of the movie was the original guardians of the Galaxy in the comic books which yondu was a member of with the character in the other post credit scene Adam.

35:50 Did you realise the importance of using *Fleetwood Mac's "The Chain"* in this scene? The song is about an abusive relationship [which Lindsay Buckingham and Stevie Nicks had] and breaking free of it ... just like Peter breaks free of Ego in that moment.

Nebula and Gamora are my favorite characters in this movie. Nebula is definitely my fave Guardian, I don't know what it says about me that I relate so heavily to the psychotic alien cyborg. Also the Eternals are heavily involved and expanded on in the Eternals movie. Dont forget to watch the Guardians Christmas Special before watching volume 3! It's an absolute gem!

Hi Shai!😊 Great to see you continuing your Guardians journey. I think Baby Groot is your favorite here.😉 Ego really isn't the first Celestial we've seen. The large severed alien head in space called Nowhere where we meet The Collector was also a Celestial. I think you will really enjoy volume 3 when you get to it. Great reactions to the second Guardians film, Shai!!!!🎬👏👏👏👏

Shadowcat , if you watch the Silver Surfer cartoon from the 90s, you will see Ego the Living Planet, he said he was a floating brain, and i think he popped out of the giant head they went to in the first movie.

Great reaction again @shadowcatreacts ... and a fun fact for you (in case no one's mentioned it yet). In the 2nd to last End Credit scene, where the Ravagers were talking about getting back together, the Robot Head talks ... and that's Miley Cyrus. She agreed to do that without being given credit for it.

Shadowcat, Stan Lee was talking to the Watchers, they are race of beings that observe life all over the universe and they only talk/communicate among themselves, they have a rule about not talking to other species, Stan said that he was a federal express man once, meaning he talked to the Earthlings, as he was in other marvel movies talking to the characters which is a big no no. in the comic books only one Watcher broke the rules , his name was Uatu, he helped the Fantastic Four and warned them of the coming of GALACTUS , you can see that episode in the 1967 Fantastic Four cartoon.

Hey, Shadowcat! Slapstick and sentiment are what this franchise is about! Much like Vol. 1, "Guardians Vol. 2" was an acquired taste for me since the characters differ so radically from the '90s Valentino era and lack the nuance of the '00s Abnett/Lanning era. I take science fiction very seriously. Its deeper themes and allegorical references resonate deeply with me making it a challenge to immerse myself in these goofy antics. The plot centers on the mystery of Quill's parentage revealing that he is half-Celestial whereas he is half-Spartoi in the comics, a prince of one of Marvel's staple interstellar civilizations. In spite of changes such as that, these movies, much like the team, prevail against all odds delivering endings that pack an emotional wallop! James Gunn earns my admiration each time for pushing the boundaries, diving deep and bringing impossible characters like Ego to vivid life! It takes a wildly creative sensibility and a deep affection for this mythology to get this many disparate parts to mesh properly and Gunn has both in spades. I cannot wait to see what he does with that tease for Adam Warlock. The production has an incredibly varied aesthetic that is a feast for the eyes including the golden realm of the Sovereign, the neon-lit tundra of Contraxia, the misty forested world of Berhert, and the lush splendor of Planet Ego. Traditionally a Thor villain, Ego the Living Planet is difficult to comprehend and challenging to render so I give Gunn tremendous credit for reducing him to a relatable stature while retaining his planet-with-a-face appearance. He does get an upgrade to Celestial status but he is his own entity in the comics. The Celestials are titanic armored space gods with Knowhere station being one of their severed heads! Despite varying from their comic counterparts, the returning cast is as game as before including Chris Pratt as Peter Quill aka Star-Lord, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax, Michael Rooker as Yondu Udonta, Sean Gunn as Kraglin and Karen Gillan as Nebula. Bautista is a stand-out who continues to mine Drax for impressive comedy gold but Rooker steals the show with Yondu's gut-wrenching death scene! Also returning are a high-pitched Vin Diesel as Baby Groot and Bradley Cooper as Rocket Raccoon who remain the only Guardians adapted faithfully except in one regard. According to Gunn, Baby Groot is the offspring of the original Groot rather than a regrown Groot retaining the same memories as in the comics. New characters are Ego, a sentient world that manifests as a man to pollinate other worlds across the universe with his essence! He is played by Kurt Russell as an expansive, avuncular aging hipster who is digitally de-aged to his 1980 likeness in the prologue. Pom Klementieff charmingly plays his empathic pet Mantis who is given a completely different personality than in the comics although she gets to keep her antennae! Elizabeth Debicki plays golden-skinned Ayesha aka Kismet who is transformed into the haughty High Priestess of a golden-skinned species known as the Sovereign. Sylvester Stallone plays Stakar Ogord aka Starhawk whose complex comic backstory is simplified to that of a respected Ravager Captain. He is accompanied by his First Officer, Martinex, a crystalline Plutonian played by Michael Rosenbaum of "Smallville". Both represent a nod to the Valentino Guardians of the '90s. Chris Sullivan plays the traitorous Ravager Taserface whose unfortunate name is actually an authentic deep dive into the comics! Returning in small roles are Laura Haddock as a pre-cancerous Meredith Quill, Gregg Henry as Grandpa Quill, Wyatt Oleff of "It" as young Peter and Seth Green voicing Howard the Duck seen patronizing a Contraxian brothel! In bit parts, Brit character actor Tommy Flanagan plays Tullk, a Ravager loyal to Yondu, Ben Browder of "Farscape" plays a Sovereign Admiral and Elizabeth Ludlow of "The Walking Dead" plays a distressed alien mother fleeing from Ego-matter. Michelle Yeoh as Aleta the Arcturan and Ving Rhames as Charlie-27 the Jovian appear briefly at the Ravager funeral and in one of the end-credit scenes as another Valentino tribute. TRIVIA: 1. James Gunn wore a motion capture suit and served as the model for Baby Groot's opening dance sequence! 2. Vin Diesel had actual scripted lines written for his eyes only so that he could inflect "I am Groot" appropriately. 3. The idea of a self-aware brain like Ego's spontaneously coming into existence is a philosophic thought problem proposed by physicist Ludwig Boltzmann! 4. In between Guardians films, Nebula stunt double, Olivia Jackson, fractured the left half of her face, suffered a traumatic brain injury and had her left am severed in a motorcycle stunt gone wrong! 5. The Zune was an actual Microsoft digital music player developed in 2006 that was discontinued due to its lack of popularity! EASTER EGGS: 1. When Peter is granted cosmic awareness by Ego, his eyes fill with stars and he says he sees eternity. This is a reference to Eternity, the personification of the universe in Marvel comics, who appears as a silhouetted humanoid whose form is filled with starscapes. 2. The larger replacement head-fin that Yondu wears makes him look more like Centaurians do in the comics. 3. Cosmo the canine cosmonaut and Jeff Goldblum's Grandmaster from "Thor: Ragnarok" are seen in the credits themselves frolicking. 4. Among Stakar's reassembled Ravager team in the end-credits is Krugarr, a red, serpentine alien from a species known as Lem. He is a member of the '90s Valentino Guardians and the 31st-century Sorcerer Supreme! 5. Seen listening to Stan Lee are Watchers, a race of observers who monitor all that transpire in the universe but never interfere. Uatu is the Watcher assigned to Earth who observes us from his dwelling on the Moon. 6. According to Gunn, this film occurs just months after the first "Guardians of the Galaxy" meaning it is set chronologically before "Avengers: Age of Ultron". CAMEOS: 1. Ego momentarily transforms into Peter's imaginary concept of his father, David Hasselhoff, who appears as himself! 2. Miley Cyrus voices the disembodied robot head Mainframe in the Valentino tribute end-credit scene. 3. Stan Lee appears in a spacesuit regaling a group of Watchers about all his cameos when Rocket, Groot, Yondu and Kraglin are jumping through space! END-CREDIT SCENES: 1. Kraglin tests his ability to control the repaired yaka arrow but misfires puncturing Drax whereupon Kraglin sneaks away. 2. Sylvester Stallone's Stakar Ogord addresses a reassembled team of Ravagers from different clans who collectively represent the Jim Valentino Guardians of the '90s. They include Michael Rosenbaum's Martinex the Plutonian, Michelle Yeoh's Aleta the Arcturan, Ving Rhames' Charlie-27 the Jovian, a CGI Krugarr the Lem and Miley Cyrus' Mainframe the A.I. who is a character from the tertiary MC2 universe but is nonetheless included. 3. A frustrated, vengeful High Priestess Ayesha monitors a birthing chamber she claims will produce the next step in the Sovereign's evolution calling it 'Adam'. This is a tease for the introduction of Adam Warlock! 4. Quill scolds a now-teen Groot to clean his vine-littered room to which he replies with obnoxious, disrespectful iterations of "I am Groot"! 5. Tired of Stan Lee's prattling, the Watchers wander away leaving the old boy stranded in his spacesuit on the desolate planet. The next chronological stop in the MCU are the "I Am Groot" shorts 'Groot's Pursuit', 'Groot Noses Around', 'Groot's Sweet Treat', 'Magnum Opus' and 'Groot and the Great Prophecy', which occur before the teen Groot end-credit scene. They are followed by Episodes 11-19 of Season 2 of "Agents of SHIELD" but be sure not to miss the "GUARDIANS' INFERNO" music video to see the whole cast out of make-up at a disco with Stan Lee, James Gunn and David Hasselhoff! It is located on the "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" blu-ray, DPlus as an Extra or on YT.

I think you missed that Ego said he needed another celestial to have enough energy to fulfill his goal, but it's interesting that instead of searching for one, he decided to essentially make one by having an ungodly number of kids across the universe until one carried the right gene. which again kind of speaks to his ego since the child would still be 50% him, so that's interesting. Also, a child would be way easier to manipulate than another godlike being. Also, 2 Fun Facts: The Scenes with Stan Lee and the Big-Headed Aliens is a reference to the popular fan theory that Stan Lee is playing a Watcher in all his cameos, which is a race of beings that have made it their job to watch and document the history of every other species in the universe. The second one is that the post-credit scene with Silvester Stallone's character Starhawk is a reference to the original Guardians of the Galaxy. The team we know and love is actually fairly recent, only existing in that form in the comics since 2012, I think. The Original Guardians appeared in the 1970s, and Yondu was actually a prominent member, but he was totally different, being basically a giant native-coded stereotype, so I'm glad we evolved from that.

I knew baby Groot was classic Disney marketing but seeing you enjoy it so much makes me give them a pass. :) EGO knew it wouldn't return and needed someone to watch over the offspring till it was ready. A tumor gave her the time needed in EGO's mind and was right on cue with Yondu. The classic 'end justifies the means'.
