Ok I'm an American veteran, a proud member of the Cavalry branch. I served a million years ago, when dinosaurs and Cold Warriors proudly walked the Earth. I've always had the greatest respect for the British Army, but let me share a small thing. On the morning after September 11th 2001, I, like my whole nation, was in a state of severe shock. We were angry, grieving, and as a combat veteran I was deeply concerned for our troops who would soon be going into harm's way against an enemy that wasn't even a nation-state. But that morning, for the first time in my memory [and I'm a military historian], band of the Guards Brigade played 'The Star-Spangled Banner' at the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham. I am not a particularly demonstrative man, but I literally cried. The simple gesture of respect was a very moving moment for me. And I'm not the only one. I live near a major military base and our region has one of the highest veteran populations in the country. ALL of my fellow has-beens felt the same way. If it means anything at all, please accept the respects and regards of an old cavalry corporal.

It's just surreal knowing all these things behind the scene. The training. The honour. The duty. The responsibility. It's more than becoming a guard. I feel closer to the royal family just by watching them here in the small screen of my phone. Now, watching this documentary and seeing a zoomed view of the palace, it made me realized how important the royal family is especially the Queen with all her Guards. It's a reality that they are not that easily accessible or a just a sight to see. And you're just one of those million tourists who peep by the gate or stand outside the gate. Seeing the Queen's Guard should be considered as privileged. How much more if you see the Royal Family themselves. My utmost respect to them! Salute.

Fuck the royals, I wouldn't fight for the monarchy, i'd rather see the monarchy dead, its never been said but fuck it. You think they bring fucking tourism? Their history, palaces we build the fucktards and the UK's past will always draw attention of world-wide historians, weather the monarchy is alive or not to have a contemporary photo will make no fucking difference, and if we do lose money? well it will no matter because instead of money going to the royals we'll have more to spend on... Well said Kynan Clarke: all the Guards regiments take turns in their duty of protecting the "Monarch" which includes the Life Guards, Household Cavalry, Grenadier, Welsh, Irish, Coldstream, Scots Guards all provide ceremonial duties as well as not ceremonial duties. Those who are familiar with the British Army will know that once upon a time there was not a standing army of any sort, but the regiments which were formed and lasted were the ones who were to protect the King/Queen of the day. Over time we have arrived at this group of regiments, who ethos is to be the best there can be. So they drill, they practice and practice until they are as perfect as can be. I recall a story about Queen Victoria, who passed through Horse Guards Parade sometime in 1894 and the guard failed to turn out for her, after she spoke with Colonel commanding asking what he thought to be a suitable punishment, he suggested the Guard be turned out every day at 4pm, she suggested the guard do so for the next 100 years, which they did! The present Queen felt this "Punishment" should be continued after 1994 as it had become a "tradition" and the Household Cavalry have continued to do so until this day every day @16:00hrs at HorseGuards Parade in London.

People here comparing military units please understand that playing call of duty on a PlayStation does not makes u an expert...... each unit is unique in its own way... has traditions... has discipline... every military unit anywhere in the world has faced hardships and death so that they can protect your independence..... comparing them is a bit childish....

Dude, the part at the end gave me chills. That guy did a great job. He still did his job and held his position as a man, but he held that little girl hand just to show her that he’s in there. He just hast to do his job. Mom is proud and sad at the same time.

@lorddaver5729
Жыл бұрын
No, she didn't "rule' for 70 years. She reigned as a constitutional monarch, which meant she carried out ceremonial duties with the advice and guidance of Government ministers. It was the job of the elected government to "rule" or run the country. Why does everyone get this wrong?

Lots of respect to all the men and women in uniform. These people are real soldiers with real training. They are the last line of defense. If soemthing where to happen domestically that would put the Queen or Royal family in danger then they would be the one's to respond to it. There's no such thing as a ceremonial soldier....even if at times ceremony is a big part of their job. I've always thought of England as sort of an older brother to America. Like any family we've had our disagreements and our fights but we have always had a strong bond. I don't get why everyone wants to mess with the Grenadier Gaurds. They have freaking weapons people...and they're not just for show. Let them do their jobs. While it all seems fun and games people's lives could depend on their concentration. Let them be, take a pic from a good distance if you must but chill out and let them do their jobs. They went through hell just to get the opportunity to do what they do. I have never been in the military but I can imagine (to some degree) how hard their training must be. There's a reason that so many don't make it through it. Just a lot of respect for the English military as well as our own and all of the people who serve honorably the world over.

lol is that so Hayden? go take a look at the history books, They clearly state that we were kicking your asses. You lost battle after battle with your terrible commander George Washington (and he WAS terrible, you can look up his military records) you were losing because you had no training, and then you received training from France, but even THEN you struggled. Britain's Parliament ended up giving you your independence only because we felt sorry for you. And it all started over you not being represented in parliament... Which begs the question... why didn't you elect anybody?! countless men, on both side, died for nothing, all because your dumb asses didn't think to elect anybody, and on a side note, I don't see you giving thanks to the French for training your asses when you celebrate on 4th July. Ungrateful cunts.

Fluffy? this style of head dress was originally French. At the Battle of Waterloo (1815) HM Guards 'captured' enough of them to have one each - they were given permission to wear them as a trophy that eventually became part of their parade uniform

3 years ago I posted my comment re: this fine Gentleman/ Proud Soldier, as to his squeezing the hand of his little sister during his ceremony. I never realized the positive support as a result to my comment, would be so overwhelming. I am humbled to such! Thank you!. My name is Ted Hernandez, I read the History of war. I look to the individual actions that the fighters of such are involved in. I try to understand the fears, the successes and failures that they encounter while doing their duties along side their comrades and for their countries. In short? I respect all. Yes. I played taps for three of my close comrades in arms, many years ago. And I'll continue to honor, with total respect all who were maimed, or fell in combat. God bless the soldier.....

The biggest compliment you can give for those guys, is to let them do their jobs in peace without making stupid comments, trying to make them laugh or disturbing them in any way. They are not some silly-looking puppets that are there for your amusement. They're professional soldiers who have been in real combat situations. It's very serious business and not all of them make it. Respect for Grenadier Guards from Finland
