The thing with plants is that they tend to be kinda global and not restricted to one country Like yeah if you're in a pine forest you're probably in europe and if there's tall white peaks peeking from behind the forest then you might be in switzerland or austria but if you see like 1 pine tree it could be anywhere

@@bloxyranks It only has unofficial coverage, yes. Outside of the capital, the image quality seems to be quite variable, but in Tbilisi it actually doesn't look too bad. I think he could have found a place there that would have been suitable; especially since he only used screenshots, and didn't need the actual Geoguessr interface.

I think my biggest unfortunate complaint about Geoguessr pros is that there is a lot of meta play. It kinda makes me sad that the car and antenna is such a reliable tool. It makes it more a pattern recognition game rather than actual knowledge of the world. I understand the car isn't everything but whenever I see people's logical reasoning be the car it makes me wish Geoguessr would just make a black void the radius of the largest car if looking down. No car input at all.

not just the car, but quality of camera, insects on the lens and other bits and bobs make it less a geography game more of a google maps game, but most of the metas (street signs, road conditions, road markings) arent like that.

To be fair, you could say the pure geographical part of Geoguessr is also pattern recognition, but I get what you're saying. It almost feels like cheating, but it's still highly impressive.

There's a script that blocks the car, which gets a decent bit of use. People are still really good, but it definitely makes things harder. (I might start practicing myself without car soon, I need to lessen my dependence on meta when playing.)

This is so weird: a couple of these I actually got right with my first gut feeling, and with others I was like "WHAAAT!?" I have not played GeoGuessr a lot but I have watched others play it very often and started to slowly pick up on the clues. Countries I have been to personally are a bit easier to guess ofc. But some of these "oh it's that pile of dirt in Uganda" guesses are beyond my comprehension, they are so insane.

That one USA one in the forest was crazy, I guessed USA only because it looks like every generic southeastern forest I've ever backpacked through. So cool to me how once you play enough, you just get a general gut vibe. No one thing does it, but some lizard brain part of you puts the pieces together.

My guesses as an absolute geo guesser noob who has never actually played and just went by general vibe within like 20sec of thinking in order: Slovenia Ecuador Greece Poland Something between Italy and greece(I take that as a win) Spain Estonia Germany (don't judge me, it looks very similar to where I live) Germany (looks even more similar to where I live, and the pro evn agreed with me this time) Netherlands (didn't even notice the left side driving...) Malaysia South Africa (my first to guesses where Ghana and Uganda😅) Greece Malaysia Estonia (only cuz it was so damn green and I heard someone talk about the "Estonian green tint" before)

Geoguessr gave me a spot with clouded rainy weather with a relatively small street, no sidewalk, some sakura trees and other blooming leafed trees. A car parked on the left hand side of the road. Houses looking like Australia/NZ/US. It was San Francisco... I should have saved it.
