Hi just came across your video!! I’ll be getting my PHD in protein synthesis at Harvard next fall. But wanted to ask, how long does it take for me to complete the Trader Joyce application? Any tips on getting through it too would help! Thanks AlphaGenisis :)

Did you end up rejecting your Ford Fellowship? Neither foundation allows you to accept two fellowships.

I staggered the two. You just can't have them at the same time. I took Ford year 1, then NSF year 2, etc.

Hi Lillian awesome video as always! 😊 I was wondering if there is any research scholarship/fellowship opportunity available for international undergrad/grad students studying in US. Coz all the goldwater, NSF etc. are not! 😞

Hmm there aren't many! I know there are some around but I would ask the fellowships office at your institution if they are aware of any that fit your particular situation. Good luck!

@@lillianinequilibrium Thanks! I actually got few so far from my institution and outside, but if I may, when you said "I know there are some around", could please give a hint of any, so I can do my own research - nothing too serious, just off the top of your head. Either way, thanks again for making theses awesome videos! :)

Hello! Was it difficult to propose an 'original research plan' as an undergrad when you haven't declared what school you're going to go to? I feel like different schools would limit/have different instruments & resources available. Or is maybe just the overall arching focus the main priority of this statement? thanks!

Hi Brandon! It might have been harder than if I had been a graduate student with a project already, but I didn't think it was difficult at all. I wrote a statement based on research I would love to do if a particular school accepted me which kept it very focused. You're on the right track when you're thinking about resources the schools have because NSF cares a lot about feasibility. Specifically mentioning the resources that the school has that will make your project possible will be appreciated by the committee, I'm sure. Thanks for your support :)

Hi Lillian! I am applying as an "undergraduate", but I graduated last year and am currently applying to grad school. In your experience, how relevant does the eventual lab you choose have to be relevant to your proposal?

You should have an idea as to how they can help you execute your research plan. Sorry that this is answered three years later!

I know what research project I want to do but haven't applied to PhD programs yet and dont know where I will be accepted. Is it ok to apply for NSF fellowship anyway?

As long as you are intending on going to grad school the next year, then it should be fine. I applied as an undergrad so I didn't know where I was going when I applied as well. Best of luck!

@@lillianinequilibrium you mentioned that u will conduct this research at UC Merced. However, now u are at Harvard. Did your funding transfer over??
