The absolute best actors ever in soup operas history was. Michael who played Roger Thorpe and Bevalee Mckinney who played Iris on another world and Amanda Spalding on Guilding Light. Those two should have been Top Movie Stars and won many Oscars. It was so heartbreaking when they both passed away in real life. No one could replace that kind of ' acting'

Well I stand to be corrected on the acting part. If you can call Downton Abby a soap opera. I have watched this series before and for some reason never realized the absolute outstanding acting ability of Dame Maggie Smith. She WAS the character she played. I watched the entire series for three days and was just mermrized by Maggie SSmith's every move. You just don't find acting like Michael, Beverlee and Dame Maggie Smith. ...well let me add David Jenson. He was another one who never seemed to be plain a character He was simply himself. Great man. Can't fill those shoes.

When actors spoke well and had a different style of acting that was more intense. Bert was the heart of that show and her scene with Mike was gold!
@katie9918
8 жыл бұрын
Oh, the irony of Bert telling anyone they're capable of running their own life, when she was the one who drove Mike away from home with Hope with her meddling (after she cheerfully packed Julie off to a sanitarium so she could have Mike and Hope all to herself) and after Bill warned her one last time before his fatal plane crash (1977 only served to demonize Bill when he had already had many, many character flaws of his own to sanctify Bert further after her social-climbing, unsupportive, shit-stirring beginning IMO) to back the hell off of their sons. Being said, it was so good for Hope to have someone to confide in and Bert was truly awesome in that regard by this time.

I heard a somewhat recent interview with Lenore Kasdorf on one of the soap podcasts, where she said that she was offered a chance to return to GL for a six-week reprisal of her role to tie up Rita's loose ends (presumably sometime during the mid- or late-'80s). She said that she really wanted to do it, but was already living on the West Coast by that point, and would have had to rent a short-term apartment in NYC, while still paying for her house in LA, take her daughter out of school for those weeks, etc., and that it just wasn't financially feasible, but that she was disappointed, because she really did want to do it. It's a shame because it would have been fun to see Rita again and give her the character a proper closing story.
