The pre-searing is the best start to a game ever. Its so immersive and cozy. There are times when i just log on to run around the pre-searing ascalon. One of these days, I'll get to level 20 in it.

Gw1 is such a good game. I remember the release of Nightfall with the new class the Dervish. Everyone wanted the Elite skill "Avatar of ....." Each castle had his own Avatar. I was in a group with 5 Dervishes and we got mauled by Bathazar. Eventually we got it, that was such a great moment. Gw2 is great but all the meta is the same.. Auto attack the gigantic world bosses and receive loot.

I used to love playing as a fast casting mesmer in PvP, but all my other skills would be the second class. It would confuse other players when my Me/Mo was healing people so fast and I couldn't be interrupted. This game has such a special place in my heart.

I played Guild wars 1 first back in high school, like...back in 2008-ish? But I had a hard time sticking with it. After playing guild wars 2 for years I finally went back with a friend I made through it and we played through the Prophecies campaign together. With a greater understanding of the lore and the significance of all these events in 200 years it just stuck with me how much of a gem I had missed out on for the likes of WoW. It was and still is a remarkable game. Everytime I hear a gw1 music track in 2 it makes me pause and just think back.

I played the game since 2005. I made so many friends that I still play with today. At the same time, I played CS 1.6. A really pleasant mix. My favorite time was the Rift, people rushing all over Tyria. The first obsidian armor...But the best thing about the game were the new, still unknown farming spots. Unfortunately, they were always fixed quickly... but just being one of the first to discover it and getting rich was great. I played it 2 years ago and only this game gives me the mysticism and the feeling of being a child... I miss those times so much. Shit growing up.

Preordered the GW1 Collectors Edition as a high school graduating teenager back in 2005 after a year of playing the betas. Always saddened me how overlooked GW1 was back then. Always happy to see people discover what it excels at. The first year of the game before the Heroes system was like nothing else, the community was absolutely thriving and the way the game did 8-man content was simply incredible.

GW1 was just pure memories for me. I remember my first time playing it was with my cousin at a lan shop back early into its release (I'm talking couldn't respec early) and odds were that each time we went back our character was just gone, but we still got to have a ton of fun with pre-searing and early searing until a few years later when I was able to get my own laptop and we got to play further. I don't think we ever beat any of the campaigns, but we got to almost the very end of nightfall. I miss those days of wondering the countryside with Gwen playing the flute as a bit of support.

A relative of mine introduced me to the first game when I was a tad bit too young to fully understand what was going on in it (especially as I didn't understand English yet). He would end up passing away around the time of GW2's release, making my connection with that game a bit more personal than most other games I play. I bought a copy of GW1, but I have yet to sit down and play through it all.

The thing I loved about Guild Wars 1 (and why I just couldn't ever get into Guild Wars 2) is the build variation. The game let's you choose any skills that you want. There is literally no skill in the game that you don't have access to, because you always have a secondary profession. And I really miss that in GW2. You just equip a weapon and the game chooses 5 of your skills for you. Guild Wars 1 is very strategic, because you have to be fully aware which one of your skills you'll be using next and in which order, constantly monitoring the field, your energy levels and your skill cooldowns. But in GW2, you just spam every button because it doesn't really matter. There is no energy - there is only cooldown. So once you've exhausted all of your 10 skills, you switch your weapon, so you get 5 new skills so you can spam them too, then you switch back to your first weapon and spam your original skills again now that the cooldown has worn off. I'm not saying that GW2 isn't strategic - especially at higher content. Guild Wars 1 was only truly supported with Expansions for 2 years (Game came out in 2005, final expansion was released in 2007), yet it still feels more complex than GW2 with its 10 years of content drops. Another thing I dislike about GW2 is the necessity to play with others. If you're playing at 5 in the morning on an empty map and a meta event comes up, you have literally no chance of defeating the boss, since 200 people have to bash on it for 15 minutes straight to get him down. But you didn't have that in GW1. The game was built so you could play every part of it solo if you wanted to.

The "MMO" thing is pretty funny for GW1, because even Colin said I think last year during their extra life streams, where he always shares these golden stories of the company and GW1/2, that GW1 was never an MMO and was more of a CO-RPG/co-op RPG because it was instanced as well. But during publishing, or whenever in that process, the game got labeled as MMO and even tho they explained it was... not and MMO, the physical copies were already out and "shipped" to retailers and it was easier for them to just say "yeah.. it's an MMO" rather than trying to change it anymore :D Even they could not understand why it was marked as MMO later on, they just went with it.

In the same genre of "Oldschool MMORPG", i'd heavily recommend Dofus, coming from all the way back in 2004, for pretty much the exact same reasons this video has put up for Guild Wars 1: Immense world and lore to discover, adventuring with friends, and overcoming challenges. Both Guild Wars 1 and Dofus excell at this very thing, with the only major differences being that Dofus is subcription based, and that Dofus is a Turn based Tactical RPG.

Great game to this day, worth doing for the story alone if you're a GW2 fan. And you can solo just about everything if you're worried about needing other players, and while it still has a player base. Given it's age you don't have that same need to have a party for everything like you did long ago. With hero's filling the role that players would.

As it happens, I still have that GW1 shortcut icon sitting in a corner of my screen. I haven't played it in a really long while now, but I can't bring myself to uninstall it because who knows when the nostalgic urge will hit? And even with it's dated graphics, I still find the Artistic direction of the game really awesome. And even though I know Jeremy Soul is a scammer and most definitely a sexual agressor, I can't help but find his work on the music of this game incredible.

The way you could combine the classes, and the unique classes themselves... I loved this game back in the day. Those are also the reason i couldn't get into GW2. Althought they def have some fun mechanics like the skills depending on the equipped items, and changing your loaded weapons on the fly. But still, the class combinations is a great miss for me. Also there isnt a new version of the Dervish...

The initial journey was never about to save your people or stop any evil -- it is to relocate the Ascalonian to a new settlement in Kryta. That's it. But along the way, you got sucked in to the conspiracy revolving around the White Mantle guild and the gods they worship. Then one thing lead to another and you got sucked in to another conspiracy about the Flameseeker Prophesies. Then before you know it, you saved the world...for now, until you visited Cantha.

I do miss the game play of GW1. It was much, much more of a sense of achievement to 100% a map in GW1 than it is in GW2... even if I like the different activities in GW2 maps. The scale of Tyria somehow felt bigger in GW1... the journey was just harder. And building a good team of heroes? So much more fun. I wish they'd retroactively make the iconic Henchmen into Heroes, like Mhenlo and Eve. I'd prefer Mhenlo as my Monk, for instance. /still using my Black Moa... Pink & Black Moa for the CC team!

I only first played GW1 earlier this year to work towards the fiery dragon sword on GW2. The fun part was finishing a build and making a skillset I enjoyed. Though as a newcomer and solo player I found it incredibly difficult to actually get started properly. It feels pretty unforgiving for newcomers, especially when I found out that instanced 'dungeons' make you restart the entire thing if your party fully dies. Or being punished for wiping in a map by having your damage lowered, which can spiral into a repeated loss of stats until you can't win. GW1 is a game that requires patience. A LOT of patience, because it is slow, and if you are new you will die, and you will have to repeat content over and over until you get how it works. There is a grind, but not for an xp bar. It's a grind of trial and error. I'd actually built up 100 hours of playtime just preparing myself with unlocking heroes and unlocking recommended beginner skills for myself and my team. 100 hours before I could actually move on with the story as I originally wanted. Admittedly after clearing each main story I just stopped playing, cause if normal mode was this difficult I couldn't imagine trying any hard modes. It was fun seeing the old places from years ago that I'd seen in gw2 but I think gw1 just wasn't a game for me. I'm a guy that prefers story content to be something that can challenge but doesn't feel like a mountain to climb. GW1 is very 'mountainous' in its gameplay.
