There's programs out there that they will not utilize. Do you know how many halfway houses work with the jail population and go through the jails to help set up home plans? People don't want to use those programs and help themselves and then they bitch and moan that they get "stuck in the system". When I went to jail my roommate kicked me out and wouldn't approve me to go back. I was one of the only people in that jail who bothered to request rehab-which is something they will set up for you in jail- and then set up to live in a halfway house out of jail. It's not that dam hard to help yourself. People just don't want to. Period.

It's not like Tiffany was in a grocery store shoplifting food because she was hungry. She stole over 4,000 DVD's. 4,000!!! Even if we assume these were cheap DVD's, say $5 bucks a piece, that means she stole over $20,000 worth of merchandise. She's lucky she's not doing hard time. Everyone blames the system or somebody else for their own downfalls in life. Time to stop holding these people's hands, and it's time to start making them take responsibility for their own choices in life. You chose to break the law, now you need to put your big girl panties on and deal with the consequences.

Yup I'm with you. I'd not have 1 drink & get behind a wheel. I was on probation with a woman on her 3rd sentence for it. She got less time & conditions than I had. And sure I deserved my sentence, but to me DUI is always classed as low level. It's so not, the harm that could've been caused to any innocent person on the road, is way more than anything I did. DUI manslaughter it's always we didn't mean it. Wtf did they think driving in that state would achieve.

Liberal judges= liberal sentences. Sadly 2 judges with court rooms next to each other can have identical cases and deliver astonishingly different sentences. The leeway judges have on sentencing is a serious problem and they need to be much more limited in the severity they can choose. Parole boards also should all be fired because they give early release based on a person "not likely to re-offend" yet there is an 83% recidivism rate for violent offenders. If you were wrong 83% of the time at your job wouldn't you be fired?

I've taken in upwards of 15 people total throughout my life and it's always been a good time generally, something I've always felt good about. The one dealbreaker however is hygiene - if someone's a stinky motherfucker and it's obvious they're like that by choice, no way will they set foot in my place. Otherwise I'm very lax about things, even drug use (hell, I have my own history) - as long as they're clean, cool to hang with, and willing to do chores, it's all good. Some guys I took in went on to do very well for themselves, and one Christmas I got a card plus a cheque for $12,000 from one guy Graham. That was a nice one!

That one lady accused of stealing 600 grand... That's crazy! Isn't possession 9/10's of the law? WTF happened to innocent until proven guilty. If she seriously didn't steal the money then to hell with a plea deal. Find it hard to believe that police couldn't track down that amount of money between 3 different people. I call BS.

they have a law that makes you wear your seatbelt in a car , but there is no laws regarding tobacco or alcohol... they wanna tell you how to run your life with a seatbelt and a ticket , but alcohol would never be unlawful because the government makes too much money on alcohol... fucked up society.. selling alcohol and tobacco is much more harmful to humans than not wearing a seatbelt
@joevignolor4u949

I agree with you that alcohol and tobacco use is a serious social problem. However, they tried making alcohol illegal once before in 1920. There was a constitutional amendment that prohibited selling and using alcohol. Google "prohibition" for more details. Eventually it had to be repealed in 1933. One reason was that the criminal element took over and start supplying bootleg alcohol when it was made illegal, sort of like the current war on drugs. As long as people want to use the stuff and will pay for it someone else will supply it. You have to deal with all these social problems in other ways, like having stronger and less dysfunctional families and better communities. Trying to solve social problems by passing laws doesn't work. All it does is to ruin lives and fill up the jails.

I always told my kids not to get on the prison/state merry-go-round because it's almost impossible to get off. Once you go on probation you'll probably get busted for some little thing, like smoking a joint, and off you go again. You get 6 months for breaking probation and maybe you get a speeding ticket for going 10 MPH over the speed limit. You've got a $350 fine that has to be paid now which you don't have the money to pay. Back in jail again until you break another probation rule and then you're off again. You can never get caught up and so you're in a revolving door of crime. This is how we keep our cities and towns funded, by fines, and we also keep all those prison cells filled. We built 2 million cells, more than the rest of the world combined. This system does not work. It is broken. Stop the wholesale warehousing of prisoners. They just go to jail now to learn how to be better criminals.

LOL sounds like you have no idea what probation actually is. It's not just "don't commit any other crimes" they can add anything they want to the stipulations of your probation. Things like losing your job, losing your place to live, not having the money for the outrageous probation fees, not coming home by a certain time, getting a traffic ticket, drinking a beer, being around your own family members who happen to have previous criminal records, being 15 mins late for your meeting with your probation officer, are all things that are probation violations and will get you sent back to jail. The system is designed to trap people and make $$, not make it easy for them to complete.

Real talk it should be illegal to have male guards in a female jail and female guards in a male jail, examples, male guards restraing a female inmate could cause the lady to hurt them and when the female guard told the male inmates to stop drawing attention to the female inmate one of the male inmates would be like "shut up bitch" and then sexually assault her.

Chris Crowther oh come on...... Can anyone win in this situation? Female officers with female inmates. Male guards with male inmates. What about bullying, bitchy female officers or male officers, who want an ego boost to play 'the man in charge'? I am sure the police and correctional officers have a code of conduct and are employed by a company, that encourages equal opportunity for all. This situation is so desperate for all, guards, inmates and all concerned. Just a thought from Oz xxx
