That ad tells a great story of one single man fighting a great, merciless force, who, at his lowest point, is inspired by his happy future. It was inspiring to se him rise up as if to say, "I will not die here, and not today. I'm going home." It shows the importance of warm imagery and having something to live for.

I’d like to think that Guinness are portraying his incredible solo march here that he did alone to save two lives. From what I have read about Tom they hit the nail on the head. An absolute legend of a man with a big heart.

Tom Crean. A man's man. I'm not keen on his name being used in Ads, but it was well done, and as said, raises his profile to a new generation. The word Hero has been eroded so much by media and the US habit of every second person being called hero. Tom was a true hero from the heroic age.

What six no-marks disliked this? Tom Crean was an extraordinary man from a very ordinary background. He deserves every bit of recognition he gets, even if it's a Guinness ad!! Read about him or go to the one-man play about him or watch the documentaries about him, for God's sake, you morons!

The pub is John Kavanaghs (aka The Gravediggers) in Glasnevin on Dublin's north side. I know this, because I work there. The exterior was filmed on a house two doors down from the pub. It's the same pub that was used in the Schillacci Smithwick's ads, et al.

You are right there was no Irish navy then but there was an Irish Movement orginizations such as Conradh na Gaeilge, the GAA and the IRB. Tom was in the British Navy (armed forces) until 1920. Monumental times you'll agree. If he'd been sent to shell the GPO in 1916 he'd have done so!!!
