There was a lot of relevant information left out. Getting a more powerful amp isn't about increasing volume, its about retaining bandwidth. You can't tell how loud an amp is going to be by looking at how many watts it puts out. There's a lot of other factors that need to be taken into account.

Low wattage suits most people. You can drive your amp without blowing out your eardrums. I learned the hard way. Ringing, pain in ears that will never go away.

You need a low watt for practicing at home or enjoying the noodling, on the stage you need power. PAs can allow a smaller amp to do the trick but I'd rather bring a big one to piss off the engineers lol. Or you can be like me own a few smaller amps and a few larger ones and still do what you want at home. Just because I'm nuts. There is no wrong or right here, it's what you want to get out of it. Even with some 100-watt heads, it can cut to half power and down to a quarter. 5 watts is all you need in the house but who the hell wants to do that.

Good video...one thing to mention is speaker wattage capacity. Example....i have a 2x12 loaded with g12h30's and they are rared at 30 watts each. 100 watts would likely blow them. I have a markv 35 and i get along with it. I play blues rock to gnr style hard rock and it does everything i need for my situations. I actually have used it in 5 watt mode at blues jams and it works well pushed with a boost pedal.

A 2-3 decibel difference is huge. Decibels are a logarithmic unit. That means 20 decibels isn’t 2 times more powerful than 10 decibels, it’s 10 times more powerful. Each time the decibel number goes up by 10, the power of the sound is multiplied by 10.

started with the 25 watt, because most people dont need more watts than that. The problem is how the amp is built, the OPT with el84 makes it thin, brittle compared to the 50 or 100. With a Master Volume, ALWAYS go for the biggest you can. The Overdrive in this amp is in the preamp, so dont worry about having to push power tubes, its about the opt. The el84 sound muddy yet thin and lifeless. Yall need to switch to bigger bottles for this kind of amp.

15 to 25 watts is all you need, you'll never get the 50 to 100 watt anywhere close to its max potential, and when you're live, you will be miced up these days, and or sent direct through front of house.

I’m sick of the “wattage equals volume” myth as it has nothing to do with output volume (that’s the job of the transformer and its relation to the speaker(s) being used). A great way to have shown this would be to use the wattage switch on the 100. You’ll end up with no discernible volume difference, since the transformer and speaker will be at the same efficiency. Don’t even get me started on matched tubes and tube biasing, just an easy way to get you to pay more for nothing. For all of the marketing gimmicks we guitar players are subjected to, we should all take the time to learn some basic foundational facts before inserting opinions.

I discern a difference in volume when flipping the wattage selector switches. In the Badlander 100, you're changing the number of tubes in use when switching from 100 to 50 Watts and whether the pair of power tubes are wired Pentode or Triode when switching from 50 to 20. These settings not only affect the headroom & output but also the tone and feel of the amp. I find them to be handy features.

Yes finally someone with some sense! The amp wattage thing is a myth and has become a marketing tool for amp manufactures. Wattage doesn’t equal volume as people have been led to believe. It matters more on old non master volume amps. What’s more important is your speaker size. If you want to get better tone at a lower volume you need a smaller speaker. It takes less volume to drive a smaller speaker. I don’t care how low wattage your amp is, if you do not turn it up to a certain threshold, it will sound like shit due to the speaker not being driven.
@jaycole4691

If wattage doesn't equal volume, it does equal horsepower. Throw a 25 watt head on a 4x12 cab and it will sound good but that 100 watter will tear your face off. I would say you have a point that is somewhat pointless.....

25W is way too loud for home unless you are hitting it with an attenuator. MV isn't going to get you the same sounds.
@mikkooijala1683

When you double the power you sound level only goes up by 3 dB. In other words going from 25 W to 50 W only increases your sound level by 3 dB which in not very much at all. From 25W to 100W you only gain 6 dB. Maybe the Watt numbers on these amps are not right, otherwise this whole thing makes no sense.

@@johanjotun1647 The speaker sensitivity has a huge impact on the actual sound volume produced. The power measurement in this context means the power going into the speakers whether it is a single speaker, 2x12 or 4x12.

But decible scale is logarithmic not linear so each 3 dB doubles sound intensity so 3db is a lot. So a 3db sound is almost silent but a 93db sound is way louder than a 90db
@mikkooijala1683

@@mysticclam 93 dB is exactly 3 dB louder than 90 dB. It is not very noticeable. Try measuring noise or sound with a sound level meter, increase your sound level by 3 dB and observe. The difference is not that much.
