at 7:45 Sasha is playing Soviet March by James Hannigen from Red Alert 3. Which is a video game about a silly alternate reality Soviet Union. Without getting too political, I think Sasha is Ironically making a underhanded middle finger at the situation in his own way. Good for him.

Congrats to the winners. Everyone sounded so amazing! I especially loved seeing so many kids being so dang good - way better than me - at this instrument that I have been playing for decades. I would love to have participated but I sold all my guitars to cover medical bills and my disability makes it so hard to get out to a guitar shop or something like that. Don't think I'm complaining! I am not one to make excuses. I am just saying that because I am saving up money slowly and will eventually have another guitar so that I can maybe participate in the next one. Awesome job, everyone. What a great group of musicians.

I recently stumbled across a video of you comparing classical guitars that ranged from $200 to $200,000 and I was very impressed with it. The $200k instrument definitely shined 😉 Many, many years ago I studied under a classical teacher and I invested several years into learning to play in this style. I loved it but I also knew that it would be a lifetime of study in order to play even half as good as Parkening. I say all of this to let you know that I fully support your desire to keep REAL music alive and to help others do so as well. GOD bless you very much brother and I made sure to subscribe so I could listen to you perform these masterpieces that I love to hear on guitar!!!

This was an amazing thing to do, Brandon--I can't applaud you enough. I'm glad I wasn't the one who had to be the judge, because with over two hundred videos, with so many talented young players, I think I would have dissolved into a puddle of agonized indecision. I think all your choices are beyond dispute, and your doubling (not splitting!) the prize for expression is itself inspired. I'm very moved by your awarding the guitar to Sasha, the Ukrainian lad living as a displaced person in Germany. Many of your contestants would have been deserving, but none had a need so great as this gifted young man.

12 years ago my brother asked me if he could sell my only guitar because he was in debt and his second child was on the way, with the condition that he would give me a new guitar of equal price range when he was back on his feet, and I said yes. He also sold my amplifier without asking. In the meantime, he has bought himself 3 guitars while I'm still waiting for him to fulfill his promise to me. It's 7:30 in the morning as I'm writing this and I haven't slept because I was laying in bed fantasizing about coming home and my brother surprising me with one of the guitars I would really like. Then, like a slap through the face, I realize it'll never happen and I'll 80 years old one day still thinking about this. I am an idiot.

If you ever give away another expensive guitar it could be fun to do it Hermit crab style. You pick the people who you decide are the top 5 or top 10, without announcing any ordering within that group. Then each person in that group offers up a guitar, which must be a reasonably normal classical guitar in good shape (and does not have to be the guitar they played for their entry). You then rank them by the value of the guitar they are offering. The person offering the most valuable guitar gets a choice: trade guitars with you, or take something like a lessons giveaway. You then make the same offer to the person with the 2nd most valuable guitar, and so on down the line. The people that choose the swap over taking lessons all end up trading up to a better guitar. Hermit crabs do something similar when they outgrow their shells. A group will gather and as the bigger crabs find new shells smaller crabs take the discard shells of the bigger ones, and even smaller crabs then take the shells those smaller crabs discard, and so on.

Man, I'm 32 now and just decided to pick up the guitar and learn classical, if I can become at least half as good as these young Kids I can feel like I accomplished something, the first thing I started with was the C major scale to help me with my left hand fingering , it took me 15 minutes to be able to go up and down the scale , very slowly but I think it is a good start for the first day 😅 Someone told me that I'm too old to be picking up an instrument

We are the same age. Age doesn't matter, it's about the time you put into it. I've started people in their 60s and they could play a classical recital after a year of lessons. Being half their age, it should be easy for you :)

@brandonacker I'm also a singer so I do have an understanding of music , i sing both rock and more classical style of vocals , and I've been in love with classical guitar for about 13 years, as a kid my dream was to go ro a music school but my parents forbid me , they said that I don't need music and I'll go to a "normal school" but now I finally decided that I want to follow my passion for classical guitar My main inspiration is Ana Vidovic, I've listened to all of her albums and most of her live performances, love her style and technique, she also started playing at a very young age , when she was 5 :)
