I like it. I think this style would sound great with a full band. I'd love to hear him solo over a "normal" backing track. Blending weird & normal styles of music often yields interesting results. A weird instrument or solo can make a "normal" song stand out & be more exciting. On the flip side, a little bit of "normal" can make weird music a lot more accessible.

Cyrus is one of those players that you either get, or you don't. I get it. I personally love some of his other tracks more, but they all have one thing in common. His songs breaks away from all convention and predispositions of what guitar playing is supposed to be. His music is a greater artistic expression than what 99% of other guitar players are doing. He is reaching out into a new place and it's impossible for anyone to do that without raising eyebrows all around. Right or wrong, I'm voting in favor of what Cyrus is doing. He is pushing boundaries, he is putting himself out there and he is unashamed of his art. Best of all, the spirit of improvisation - the best aspect of all music - is alive and well in each performance. Spending an evening exploring Cyrus and his music is time well spent. Don't expect a normal listening experience. I suggest going into it with a meditative state of mind.

Yknow, i don't like everything he does, but my only real gripe is the fuzz tone he uses...but man, he still manages to convey a wide swath of emotion, and you can still tell there is BEAUTIFUL playing underneath the white noise. IMHO, music is fundamentally about expression, and he is 1000% succesful at doing that. He's definitely set a bar for picking technique.

@@TheLotusEater725 He is doing his own thing for certain. That is why I love his music. It is from him, it doesn't imitate, it is original, it makes you wonder about what you are listening too. It's new.

5 strings - I've often thought about Fripp's NST tuning, but just leaving the High G off - just leave the CGDAE and play with only those strings. Seems to make sense to me.

@@MakeWeirdMusic Orthrelm is a project by Colin Marston (Krallice, Behold the Arctopus), and Rudolph Gray might be very hard to find - very obscure guitarist from the NY "Skronk" scene in the early 1990's.
