Uh huh... well I sold my helix lt before it depreciated and purchased my dream ‘ludicrous-tube-amp’ used for roughly the same price. I can’t say I’m looking back, and I could die happy with just this amp. Now I’m not trying to digitally emulate a Mesa Triple Rectifier, and I have the exhilarating feel AND true great sound I was after. I’m not looking down at my guitar and wondering what’s missing, or playing around with lots of wacky eq and effects to get to “almost sounds real”

Different player, different requirements yes. I've said no way multi fx modeling can get the textures of a tube amp. But That is not entirely true either. Not all digital amps are the same, and also take into consideration the type of speaker, pickups, and amp settings used. Same amp, different speakers, different sound. Many ways to assist sound other than just a tube amp. What I also did, was find a small Magnavox 20 watt tube amp with an 8-inch speaker then mic 'd through the pa, or used a Line out into pa to boost the bass, for small clubs. The amp cost me 35 USD at a junk store and weighs about 10 lbs. I've had it 15 years and with original tubes still puts out a great sound for small clubs or recording. Here is a classic Marshall redux of the 62 Bluesbreakers amp, 149 USD, with a try before you buy license. www.softube.com/marshall-bluesbreaker?gclid=CjwKCAjwu5CDBhB9EiwA0w6sLQs9z8yXxwjeLlHr2ZrAAXApN2tc42TJl56IVWH2qQJM7cWiOYKoERoCy6sQAvD_BwE

For church musician, going multi-fx would be better, unless, complete members ng church band, with acoustic guitars, 1 or 2 keys, another electric etc. But for church band that has limited members, going multi is a good idea to cover most if not all needed tones. Acoustic sim module comes in a handy, chorus effect, specially to tagalog or generic ballad type songs. You can create multiple patches with different delay timings for hillsong stuff or other delay oriented guitar driven songs. Plus, it is faster to setup and clean-up after church service or practice with a single multi-fx unit.

Multi-fx user here since the beginning. Very portable in gigs and if you take care of it very well, you wouldn't worry about parts breaking down. Also, (except for one or two tone purists among the audiences), almost no one will even care about what expensive pedal you have in your setup. They attend shows to have a good time, they paid for the gig not to hear your tone, but to listen to the whole band in particular. One can only surmise what can an overly-priced boutique pedal do against a properly tweaked virtual OD inside your multi-fx. Probably both will sound in a rendition of anything from Smells Like Teen Spirit to Layla.

I think after 10 years of playing so far I'm on the guitar pedal train. When I first started guitar I simply just bought one big pedal board that had a lot of effects. I had many different distortion sounds but I could only adjust it so much with my amp. I dig individual pedals just cuz of how much more customizable it is whereas affect pedal boards sorta just give you the basics of a "brown distortion" sound or a basic "crunch" sound etc. It's more convenient for me to have a fully customized set of pedals with the exact tone/sound I'm looking for rather than one big pedal board with the basic fundamental sounds.

I have started getting into effects and I struggled with this choice. I nearly bought a Boss ME-80. But I started think it might be fun to with a couple cheap pedals and now I have gone down the individual pedal path rather than the single unit. I like the way individual pedals look and they simpler to use. Plus it seems to me that some individual pedals sound better than the cheap multi effects unit options in my price range. I do have one multieffects pedal, the Line 6 M5. It only does one effect at time so it’s my wildcard pedal. I must admit though the idea of a single unit that does it all is enticing.

Im kind of biased here, but for me and for many others who play small gigs here at my hometown, and don't have alot of money to go around, I'll l be honest you cant really experiment onstage with multi effects, but for pocket's sake, compactness and ease of use, multi effects pedal is the way to go. No matter what many still say to stick to analog pedals, multi effects are dominating more everyday, coming ever so closer to sounds not even analog pedals are capable of on a budget. If you are a gigging musician who isn't using multi effects yet, i highly recommend it, but for big time musicians, i still recommend multi effects if you havent already. You might even replace your board entirely with a singular multi fx, or acommodate one with your existing analog pedal board, giving you the best of both worlds. I've played on both incase anyone comes after me, and although im biased, if you like to stick to your guns, or your pedals in this case, well, to each musician and their individual preferences i guess.

For me, Multi effects processor could highly keep up with stomp boxes now a days that is if you manage to spend more money to earn one yourself. Mas mahal ang single pedals for real pero kung prefer niyo ang Multieffects, same value goes para mapantayan ang kalidad ng pedal bord users. cheaper multi effects won’t do it for now; higher end will. It all comes down to how much money you spent for a multieffects processor. Then at the end what is your preference?

A lot of people seem to think that stompboxes are analog and therefore better than multi-effecs. I see people writing stuff like "a delay should always be analog, not from a multi-effect". This is bullshit. An analog delay is a physical tape loop. You don't want that, nobody does anymore. In reality, most modern stompboxes are also just digital signal processors running software to create the sound. Even most "tube drive" pedals don't contain any tubes at all.

Nice comparison. Awesome 👏 as usual from Perf! Add to that is today’s very good VST’s and it will be another difficult choice. Will depend really on how you use it (purpose). Good to see how it all evolved. If you’re aiming for live show gig or convenience home/studio recording.. depends. Plus the user’s subjective feel while playing it. I started 90’s with analog pedal. 2000’s shifting to multi effects just for convenience & portability, since my live songs are just 2-3 only, without any solos at all, so no need for complex setup. When I heard about good VST- I invested in trying one- somewhere >$90 will get you a good one. I have Scuffham S-gear and it blew away my multieffects tone if my aim is home recording. There’s also Blue Cat’s Axiom really good but above my budget. But using vst’s live on stage- I don’t know/haven’t tried. 2019-‘20 now- I started collecting again analog pedal effects, I don’t know why maybe because I saw it as my unfinished business back in 90’s and I haven’t really experienced owning an array setup of them bec high school budget is tight, all I can afford was Arion haha. Now having good job and budget is different. That old school feel of cabling routing, and bowing down to tweak and just step on it haha. So we all came from different generation, different way of appreation. Now during live stage gig- I mix analog & multi effects. But when indoors and when lazy- just plug in to iPad/ Laptop vst effetcs.

So for me as a low buget guitar player multi fx is practical because I couldn't carry heavy amps to improve my amps so no reason to buy expensive stomp boxes, so multi fx is good

When I started out I bought a used Boss GT-3 and kept buying each new one that came out after and sold the old one on ebay. But Boss would never update software bugs in the firmware for a buggy wah effect or this or that so you have a box with just one effect that sucks. Seemed like it was just enough trouble to make you want the newest version. So I quit giving Boss my money and decided single effects were the way to go because if I didn't like it then its way easier and cheaper to sell it. Anyways I'm a bedroom player and take very good care of my stuff. I bought 20 Behringer stomps on Amazon on February 1, 2014. Fast forward to Feb 23, 2020 and they all still work perfectly and still sound great. I use my Bugera 333XL head for tube distortion of coarse. But for everything else I could care less if its analog or digital. IMO distortion is the only effect that is and always will be absolute garbage when emulated. Plus when I would play with a GT unit for hours and then shut it off without saving then you basically start from scratch every play session. I hated that. Stomps dont need saves.

Multi effects win 100% for me. While i respect pedals paved the way. As a poorer guy who is new to the pedal world. You can end up paying thousands out to finally find the right pedal for your board and that's 1 out of like minimum 4 pedals you would want for a board. Whereas with MFX I can have like 200 plus effects plus a drum and looper for around 200 pound UK. That's gonna win every time and I think every budget conscious person will agree

A pedalboard is a simple what-you-see-is-what-you-get setup. No pre-programming patches and scenes, deep menu dives and hidden settings. Those are the things that matter the most to me personally, and thats why I prefer pedalboards. Edit: I should mention I DID start off on processors at the beginning of my journey. But as I became a regularly gigging musician, the points I made above became important.

for people on a budget or just starting out I would recommend RP360. It is a audio interface, it can be used with presets or just like stomp box with swithches for three effects and it´s under a hundred bucks. it also has a pretty good computer interface for saving and downloading presets. I still prefer the sound of stacking two overdrive/distortion pedals ( a Caline Pure Sky into a Joyo Tai Chi) but the Digietech is much quieter and I don´t have to muck around with powering individual pedals. The one thing that I am curious about is using is the harmonix tri-parallel mixer because that is something that really is a game changer , running effects in parallel. This allows you to keep as much of the clean sound as you want while adding a separate channel with some dirt on it.

@@beatrisyazul6544 presets on multieffects units save your complete setup, all the effects settings are saved. With individual pedals, which to me usually sound better and I find more tweakable, you have to remember or take a picture of your setting if you wish to revisit them in the future. Individual pedals are also usually nosier and each one has to be powered individually. I own the ME50 by Boss and the RP360 by Digitech. They are both acceptable for a non-gigging musician on a budget like me. The worst thing about multieffects pedals, at least the old ones, was the latency when you changed effects/presets. You would lose sound for just a few milliseconds but it was annoying. It made these pedals unusable in a live setting. Check out my music on Bandcamp or here on KZitem to hear multieffects pedals and computer effects on guitars. To me this way of recording guitars usually sounds ok for making my demos. Anyway, good luck with your musical adventure.

Interesting video. Do ALL Headrush distortion tones as suck as badly as the ones in this video? Then I'll stick with my analog pedals.

Well, you'll want to use the Headrush for its amp models and not the virtual distortion blocks

#blind #test #next para sakin iba talaga tunog ng analog kahit hinde boutique, sobrang raw and iba rin yung response and feel nya di tulad pag multi ramdam mo yung difference specially sa feel... and mostly sa mga nabili kong multi fx may volume drop specially pag emimix mo siya together with other analog pedals... kaya dahan dahan akong nag shift sa analog... pro for gigs walang tatalo sa multi effects magaan na mabilis pa ang pag set-up less hassle and very versatile... peace

I beg to differ regarding the relative cost of pedals vs multi-effects units. A BOSS ME-80 costs $445 AUSD and has at least twenty good effects and if I was to purchase twenty BOSS pedals I'd be up for $1935 AUSD and that's a conservative figure that averages out to $96.75 AUSD.

Modelers has come a long way. So kapag touring, mas portable mas ayos. If you can pull out your tone using mfx, konti na lang diperensya sa live.

Nice video. I think I'm more in theMulti-FX camp. For a questionable backline, I like the option of going right to FOH. In 2020, something like a POD GO is a great option for a great price that gives you a solid MFX processor with amp/cab modelling as required. ALSO: Nice Tee. Shout out to a fellow Margarine Coolio fan. Loves me some RJ.

Been playing over 30 years and each time I am tempted to by a multi-effects unit, I chicken out lol! I don't gig so it's more a question of sound in my quiet studio man cave, and I just love pedals too much like my boutique Nocturne Mystery Brain which cost me $550 CDN after the exchange and import fees. Sure I can pick up a HX stomp for $805 (tax in) but I simply won't use everything that is in there and I have no patience spending hours to tweak sounds! It just kills creativity for me. Probably the best video on KZitem that covers all aspects to guide your choice. Many also have hybrid setups.

Thanks for watching! Lots of new stuff came out since I made this video so an update is in order 🙂 For direct recording you can look into the Walrus Audio ACS1 or Strymon Iridium, just add it to the end of your pedal chain and it’ll act as your “amp”. Cheers!

@@OfficialPerfectoDeCastro Well guess what my friend, I just ended up buying a Hotone Stomp II (white) I'll give it a go and it fits on my board! Yes I was tempted by the AC1 more than the Iridium. I'll have to experiment to hear how digital distortions sound like going into my amp since I bought it mainly for the effects that are going in front my my ToneKing Gremlin and can always use the amp modeling, Cabs and IR's for the studio or to play with my headsets late at night and it only cost me $660 tax in CDN. 🤘

@@OfficialPerfectoDeCastro So far I just went through the presets and will delete those that I will never use. Also this Ampero II sttomp solution by itself is not enough. You need a midi switcher to give you more power over it..For instance there are 99 banks with three rigs per bank and you need to press on two foot switches to bank up and down! Even I that doesn't gig finds that tedious but Ampero offers a two button and a 4 button midi switcher or I can get something else, but I definitely want more control and an easier way to change banks.

The big issue with multi effects when you have to play loud for a live show along with band. Most of them sound bad against good pedals
