Nice review Nick... I'll steal a few things from this, if you don't mind... The arm CAN be tightened... took me some fans and comments to get how to do it... put in the arm and push the tremolo forward... in the back you'll see a little hex screw... Nice and thorough review... get yourself more cameras and track the guitar and your voice separately and you'll get subscriptions in no time...

Mike Swann Hey Mike! The pickups are bit hot and a bit bright. I like them though for high gain settings or rolled off a bit with a slightly dirty drive. The neck is similar to my Gibson Les Paul with 60's neck. Not too thick or wide. Nothing like a PRS neck but still quite comfortable. She's quite a nice player and the trem even works quite well. Happily it stays in tune.

Very few thing's give me as much pleasure as strumming my favorite chord on a guitar that sounds awesome, hence why I have so damn many now haha. Thanks for doing all these review videos on the HB's, I'm enthralled with the TE-70 Rosewood right now and could see myself grabbing a couple of guitars from Thomann's in the future. Thomann is pretty much it. No need to worry about most customs stuff with these. Knock on wood I've never paid customs on any of the 10 or so orders that have come in for me and co-conspirators. You really can't beat the prices so for me it's been worth the risk. If you buy ones that are over $100 or so they tend to be pretty darn nice quality. I talk friends into ordering them so that we can split the $32 shipping for up to 3 guitars. I'm psyched you subscribed man! I'm trying to have a bunch of videos up over the xmas holidays!

Dang, you are such an enabler. Just when I thought I was done with Harley Benton :-). That's a sweet looking guitar man. A shame about the whammy bar falling out, but it sounds pretty good with the stock pups and pots. I like the sound of the Wilinsons that came in my HB SG. I assume the L450 plus will have the same Wilkinson pups. Good point about buying more than one. Besides saving a little money, I ordered two and they seem to be more protected when they are bundled together. I remember you saying some of the first HB's arrived a little banged up. I missed out on the HB Vintage LP style. Looks like it's sold out. So I ordered one of L450 plus in Honeyburst. And I ordered a black L-1000 with active pickups. Just because it looked cool and I always wanted a guitar with active pickups. I guess I better stock up on the 9V batteries.

Nick in the States So my Harley's went on a wild adventure. Got an e-mail last Thursday saying that my guitars were out for delivery. Then later in the day, tracking showed my parcel had been misrouted. Ended up going from customs in NY to near Pittsburgh. Finally arrived today, but both guitars are damaged. The L450 Plus had a broken 3 way switch. Hole in the cardboard box where it looks like it was dropped. L-1000 looks like it took a fall as well. The clearcoat on the headstock is cracked and the wood underneath is cracked and splintered. I believe you said you had some issues with damages early on. How was Thomann's customer service? Did they make you ship the old guitars back? What kind of turn around? I think I may suck it up and hold on to the L450 Plus since it's one of the last of it's kind. I can just install a new switch. But the L1000 is pretty badly banged up.
@NickintheStates
9 жыл бұрын
Oh man, sorry to hear about the trials and tribulations of your poor Bentons. I agree with your plan though... the switch in the HB's is a shitty one anyway, so no huge loss replacing it with a switchcraft style one. It is the last of its kind and a heckuva guitar. Yours i not the first that I've seen with the switchtip poing through the box. In fact I think at least one of the 4 L450 Pluses that came through my hands had that happen to it. That really sucks on the L1000 though... Hopefully it's not too big of a hassle to send back to Thomann. I had a little bit of roughing up on one of my guitars but didn't return it. I did have some QC issues that they issued me a credit for. Others I know have had to send it back and I think the shipping cost them some $$ and there was some paperwork involved... but I think an issue as egregious as yours should be quickly rectified. Let me now how they take care of you and good luck man!
@squilky
9 жыл бұрын
Nick in the States So after sending pics of the damage to Thomann, they offered me 25euro store credit per guitar. Guitars are already so cheap, so knocking another $30 or off the price is pretty sweet. Especially with the L450 plus, since once I swap out the switch, you will never know anything was wrong with it. The L-1000 has the crack in the headstock, that is pretty obvious. But it plays great. I'll just make up some cool story about how the damage happened. "I was backstage with Lemme from Motorhead..." Yeah the L450 plus is pretty damn awesome. Even with the stock pots and pickups, it sounds great and feels great. My only complaint is that weird ass logo on the headstock. What the hell is that thing? A glowing golf ball on a tee? hehe. I prefer the blank headstock with just the Harley Benton "signature" on my goldtop. Looks much cleaner and more professional. But the guitar is pretty amazing for so little money. I was considering ordered a Vintage brand guitar from Thomann. I really love the way their ice tea burst model looks. But the way they ship stuff, I'm not sure if I want to take a chance. It's one thing to take a chance on a $150 guitar, but the Vintage are twice as much. Wondering if they ship those any more securely. I would hope if I ordered a real Gibson that it wouldn't ship in just a plain cardboard box. Glad I stumbled across your video about the HB's. I have 4 of now, and I'm pretty impressed with all 4 of them. But now my guitar rack is full, so will have to resist the urge to order anything else. Or maybe I'll just my store credit to order another guitar rack ;-).
@NickintheStates
9 жыл бұрын
Thomann sticks behind their stuff, that's for sure. Glad to see they made it right by you. I think at the price both are still good deals with their little issues. Those Vintage guitars that they sell are really nice and people seem to like them a lot. I'm more leaning towards the HB rosewood telecaster with matching headstock. I need another Tele like a hole in the head tho!

WaurufEx [EN] I had a wiring issue on mine. The bridge pickup sounded flubby and way too bass-y. I ended up just re-soldering all of the wires and it improved the sound but the Roswell pickups sound cheap. They don’t have much definition. I replaced the bridge pickup with a Seymour Duncan JB SH-4 and it sounds absolutely amazing! I didn’t have any sharp frets but there was a scrape underneath the clear coat which showed that it happened at the factory and not during shipping. I will replace the neck pickup eventually but the guitar itself has a beautiful finish and is really nice to play. It’s a “you get what you pay for” guitar.

+SwedishGuitarNerd This one is a surprisingly good one. I've had a couple of duds but nothing too bad if you're accepting of some "whimsy" in this price range. I think there are 4 basic ranges of guitars. Unplayable or challenged junk, solid cheap guitars, good to really good overall guitars and exceptional ones. And the Bentons have been mostly in the second and third categories. BUT I only have bought ones in the over 100 Euro price range before VAT. Under that I've heard about a bunch of issues.

Yes that might be true. The HBT 1952 tele that I reviewed was slightly cheaper than €100 if I remember it right. We'll see if I get one of the CST's..

Hey there, old friend! The older Harley Bentons have been pretty bad, indeed. But, starting 3-5 years ago, factories in China have had better producing standards and Thomann products have also benefited from this. Even cheaper Teles and Strats sound good now. And are also OK built. I, myself, am planning on getting a JB-75 Vintage bass and a CST-24HB Tobacco Flame guitar in a few months. Well see what happens after that. Also, make sure to check out EytschPi42's KZitem channel. He also reviews some pretty cool gear. Take care & wishing you all the best! :)

Thomann.de in Germany. They ship to use for about $35. You can ship up to 3 guitars for $35 total though so it be hooves you to bundle!

there's a setscrew for snugging the trem bar a little. press the trem down a little and you'll see it by looking up from the base of the guitar towards the headstock 👍

or better still, leave it out altogether and block the trem in the back panel, less tuning issues

Hey Nick, what's up. It's me Mike, again, as usual, anyway so you're Portuguese, second generation or something like that??? Last time I asked you I coudn't quite make out what you meant by your answer, I remember you saying something about cardiology. Anyway, I'm a Cannuck, Canadian, but not to the bone because I'm also a "Tuga" a.k.a. - person from Portugal, or to simplify, just Portuguese. Take care. Cheers. Mike.

Mike Swann I am 3rd generation Portuguese. Sorry, the joke I made was reference to a recurring Family Guy joke where the two Portuguese fisherman always pop up. One guy eventually says, while doing menial labor, that "In Portugal I am Cardiologist." Anyhoo, failed attempt at humor! Is your family mainland or islands? Mine is from San Miguel in the Azores. Beautiful country right there.

They're both fun guitars to play and something different. The $$ is always the tough part... But it's always good to have a plan if some unexpected cash comes in.

Hey Alan! It's been a crazy busy month so I've had a few videos half done. More to come! It's funny you ask about the tele,.. I'm eyeing the rosewood tele with machine headstock from Harley right now. Ramen noodles for dinner the next few weeks and I'll probably order one. I've also got an acoustic that I have the video for nearly done... It'll be up this week.
