I've enjoyed your Prince week reactions. One of my fav parts of this set is when he transitions from Stratus into All Shook Up. I watch this Montreux concert AT LEAST once a week. The whole set is a masterclass in musicianship. And Rhonda Smith is killing on bass! I usually crank the bass up in my car stereo when they play Stratus so Rhonda can destroy my eardrums lol. John Blackwell is also a beast. His drums during Spanish Castle Magic sends me to space everytime. You should react to All The Critics Love You In Montreux from this concert

Another nice reaction. Montreaux show was a good show. Good guitar education for the air guitar heads. First guitar part was "stratus." You might appreciate the guitar in "The Ride" in Prince s crystal ball album, came out in 1998 but song is from about 1995

I really enjoy yout reactions to the Prince videos. I have watched you come to not only know and appreciate Prince's prodigious talent, but also his talent for evoking emotions that have you nissing his presence here on earth. I would suggest you do Purple Ran Syracuse 1985, if you haven't already, it's the absolute best version. His solo on "Shh" the Paris version is another must.

End of Stratus and John Blackwell's drum interlude, into All Shook Up, then Peach, then Spanish Castle Magic. I find it funny that you were waiting for an interlude to break in - which with any other act, you know will be coming up at the end of the song right? - but he played concerts almost like a series of medlies that very rarely fully stopped

Interesting to pick out the Jeff Beck so quickly - who did Rhonda work with after her first stint with Prince... Jeff Beck. And interestingly when he plays Johnny B Goode on acoustic during a French TV appearance, he plays significant amounts of his own song Peach in the arrangement. Very Chuck Berry early rock n roll. Great clip from one of the greatest concerts he ever did, which puts it in the running for one of the best concerts ever.

@@GuitarSoloReactions he played it a lot in the last decade or so... At Montreux with this iteration of the NPG band, and a lot with 3rdEyeGirl (heavier arrangement). Both great for different reasons.

Hey Brian, loved the video and your reaction, awesome that u just kept it running for a while longer! so here's a timeline: 00:00 Your intro 01:20 (the end of) Stratus (Billy Cobham) 02:06 All Shook Up (Elvis Presley) 07:55 Peach (Prince) 12:42 Spanish Castle Magic (Jimi Hendrix) 15:42 (the start of) When U Were Mine (Prince) It shows that Prince listened to almost all kinds of music, it's insane how he took it all in, made it his own and more funky where he could .... indeed, Prince was a King. Thank you for doing this Prince week! I have loved every single upload and performance you chose to watch! This was the perfect way to end, this show at the Montreux Jazz Festival 2009, is one of his best! Another song I would suggest checking out from this show in the future is "Empty Room," he has a killer guitar solo in that one! Thanks again for this week!

Brian, Thanks for doing this Prince week! These Montreux concerts are one of his best. (Prince Montreux Jazz Festival 2009 show 2) You started at the end of Stratus, a live cover version of the track by Billy Cobham, listen to that part too.

Brian, thanks for showcasing Prince for a week. This whole Montreux show is full of great Prince guitar. Check out Empty Room and All The Critics Love You In Montreux. I can recommend watching Prince I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man live 1987. Make sure it's the 7 minute version. Between 2013 and 2016 he had an all girl band which was guitar focused and he definitely kept up a high level of guitar between then. I think that a piece of music died when he left us but his music lives on to influence and inspire us all.

Great reaction. If you can get your hands on this performance, I strongly recommend it. I agree with your general idea that he focused on guitar between 2009 and into 2012-13, but he actually went right from that Super Bowl performance to a residency at the O2 arena later in 2007. I did not get to attend but a lot of the videos out there confirm that it was pretty guitar heavy. Then he did a set at Coachella in 2008, including a great cover of Creep by Radiohead. This concert was the following summer but if you can find any of those earlier performance you probably would enjoy them.

After the decades of abuse being a very physical performer on the highest level, giving all of his body, he decided to just present himself as 'guitar god'. I can't argue with '09-'12 being his peak as Prince the Guitar God.

All shook up is hardly a "mystery song" lol btw He rarely used strats. Mostly the Hohner Tele and custom. In 2014 he played a VOX. Prince always toured and used to play even after the main show in some club. Best live performer out there. Saw him 30 times+.

I have seen quite a few videos with the Vox HDC 77. I also have seen him with several custom strats with EMGs and a Floyd Rose. The strat should have been a signature model in my opinion. Thank you for sharing your personal experiences seeing Prince and commenting.
