It’s Prince. At this stage in early 2007 he was music. He has a song called “Y Should I Do That When I Can Do This”. Prince set the tone and the pace. And you can see this through the pre-Super Bowl press conference. Classic rocker Johnny B Good, Anotherloverholenyohead from 1985-86 and Get On The Boat from 2006. Sure Prince could have run through the classics like Kiss and 7 and Alphabet Street or Controversy, but he did what he felt like doing. He knew the audience, the massive exposure and to this day we are still wowed by this performance and so many countless others. Prince is/was music and his legacy and message will live for generations.

It comes to me all the time now that he’s been gone for so long- he really made it look easy. Who else had the skill. The timing in addition to the look. …and you forget he also was the band leader that was able to stop and start on a dime…a comet that has passed…

Prince always used to do an after-show in a small venue (most of the time between 11PM until 3AM) right after his concerts in big halls and stadiums. Because he couldn't do it after the Superbowl event, he decided to do it anyways, this time before the main show.

Back in the 80's, he was so mysterious to some, especially the media, journalists had a hard time getting interviews with him because he felt like they always stretched the truth and spread falsehoods about him. So he refused interviews for a while and if he did give one, it was under his rules.- period. He was like that for years and became more willing later. The press conference question snub was a 'F you' to the press.

Brian, The first time I saw this, I cracked up like you did because I remember those times when he gave 'em hell about interviews. I thought it was hilarious. Kinda of like when Rolling Stones mag left him off of the guitar list and he SHOWED them in their faces at the Hall of Fame tribute to George Harrison, lol. RIP Prince.

I love your face on this reaction, especially during the first song. The second song is Anotherloverholeinyourhead from the Parade album. I think the reporters were in shock. I think they really thought they’d get an interview, not a mini concert.

I think he did more for people her weren’t familiar with his work. A lot of the younger generation at that time was kinda seeing him for the first time. I got Introduced to his music in depth in 2004 in high school lol

This was the pre-performance press conference. I think he did it that way because he'd be uncomfortable taking questions and it would have been a bit too serious and earnest. He spoke best through his music and he said more with that performance about who he was than any words... I agree about the last song - it's a decent show of his Latin abilities but I think it was more serious. He was still quite a serious JW at the time and the songs lyrics are a real indication of his beliefs. I think he put it in there as a way of potentially reaching a new audience of potential JWs. As for the rest, stone cold killer. The best to do it - and the best to make the most of his abilities. Put the spotlight on things you are great at and don't highlight any flaws. For all the dancing he used to do, he now "magic sleight of hands" into a guitar virtuoso. The sound mix is not good but I feel for the guy who turned up that day expecting 4 microphones on a seated panel and was met with 24 microphones for instruments, band members, vocalists, etc! And all for a news channel broadcast. There'll never be another like Prince. We got incredibly lucky witnessing him. This is just one bit of evidence to justify that out of 1000s.
