Interesting, if you don’t like the style of one guitarist or the technique “you know nothing…” I know how good he was as a guitarist. At the time, I had heard it all before and didn’t like the music, does that mean I know nothing? when I had music from just about every great guitarist who had ever lived… I guess so, I guess that leaves me in the position where my mind is so “empty” of real knowledge of what a great guitarist really is, that one day, with luck, I might fortuitously, learn “something”…

Brian May (who I love similiarly) got his setup (guitar into treble booster into Vox AC30) by Rory. Back then, the very young Brian was at a Rory concert and after the concert, he asked him, how Rory produces his incredible sound. And being the humble guy, Rory was, he took his time, to tell him in detail. That's how an important part of Queen's Brian May signature sound has been created. Both men are/has been such incredibly humble persons. I had email contact with Brian, 10 years ago, about a red special replica from Andrew Guyton and he was such a nice person and helped me out, a lot!

A guitar teacher who’s never seen this? Rory was one of a kind. Check out his acoustic “Out on the Western Plain,” his Coral sitar on “Philby.” He was innately a bluesman, and he also played slide guitar, mandolin, harmonica, and saxophone. That beat-up Strat? It was the first in Ireland, and Rory bought it for £100, a fortune for him at the time. Rory is Ireland’s favorite son, and his music lives on. Every summer in Ireland, there is a festival in honor of Rory and his music. There’s no one like him.

"That bass player" that is crushing it is named Gerry McAvoy, also from Ireland. Gerry has written at least 2 books about his time with Rory.

Thanks for the video Michael and great to hear you talk intervals and cadence. Really helps to understand what is going on musically. From an Irishman. Rory did this every night btw. He wasn't commercially very "successful" because he wouldn't sell out to the music sharks. He played for the people in the audience👍🎸

Gerry McAvoy is still going strong. Saw his Band of Friends a few months ago, early 2023 in London. Brilliant night out. And yes, he still does the power stance. My favourite Rory performance, which you can get on KZitem is ‘Do You Read Me’ on the BBC show ‘Rock Goes to College’. Whole range of his outstanding abilities on display. Check it out!

Rory the Irishman with a gift. This is my favourite video of Rory's too. So playful. He gives me a lump in my throat every time I see or hear him. I bought a couple of albums in the 70s. Great to play at parties. He had the blues in his bones and he loved his guitar. His voice too was absolutely unique and expressive. And his song writing. God Bless you young Rory. You were a beautiful young man with a cute wiggle in your walk, gone too soon but you were true to yerself. No wonder you ate so loved.

The best live performance of Rory was taken down. Bullfrog Blues live for a French network. Can’t remember which one but they told whoever posted it to take it down. Rory standing on the speakers playing his heart out. Crowd on stage and Rory keeps on playing. Love that guy.

My favorite video of rory is playing tattoo lady on a TV show called rockplast (spelling??). He is playing before a live audience. Rory is in the zone, it is magical. Try to find it on utube, you will not be disappointed.

That’s my favourite version of « Bullfrog blues » too !!! So much power !!! So much energy too !!! I guess it was in Antoine de Caunes’ Chorus broadcast, recorded in Paris in 1980.

Unbelievable performance! Not sure there's many other instances where 3 chords on loop can get the hairs on the back of my neck to stand up like that. There's a small section at 11:20 where the drummer hits the bell on the ride takes it up a notch in spite of the fact that nothings else changes, and it's just awesome!!

Rory Gallagher is the most underrated guitarist to ever grace the earth! True legend! Even when Jimi Hendrix was asked "how does it feel being the greatest guitarist in the world?" he responded with, "I dont know youll have to ask Rory Gallagher", art cant really be measured against each other but that speaks volumes. Also the bass player is called Gerry McAvoy.
