Steve Wilson he said in this video how he started it. Guitars with two volume knobs such as my Les Paul. One volume on zero. One turned up. Your pick up switch becomes a kill switch. Lots of you tube videos on doing it if your guitar isn’t the type to try it.

He said what can i sing about, we said any fuckin thing u want. And thus was born a lil known band from Oklahoma called WTF?lol we had a blast for about 4yrs.

Allow me to be the second then. Except i suck..... so...... Morello is legendary.
Dre was a huge influence on me too, mostly for drinking 40’s and smoking blunts in HS. You really don’t here it on the first album but becomes apparent on the Evil Empire record. Trying to mimic the Loced (long O) out Compton synth lines of tracks like ‘Nuthin but a G thang’. And of course the scratching which is creative but they just shoulda got a DJ lol.

I'm a bit embarrassed to admit it but I'm only just now learning "Killing in the Name Of." I've been playing guitar since 1972 but due to health issues I kinda quit for about 15 years, it's hard to play when your arms ache horribly all the time because a bunch of neck muscles had to be cut off due to cancer. NOT A SMOKER. (I only explain that because of the derision I have always laid upon musicians who "just quit.") The other day I was watching the "Final Black Sabbath Concert" on TV and the next morning I got up with an unendurable itch to play my fucking guitar! Now I'm learning this song, thanks to youtube even someone who is mostly deaf (even with the most powerful hearing aids made) can learn a song with patience. It has taken me about 45- 50 minutes to learn this and man am I having FUN!!! Oh My God is this song fun to play! Reminds me of playing Paranoid or 2112 the first time! Thanks Tom for the insight! Now I'm back to my Axes, I think they missed me!

I had a friend who criticised Tom Morello's actual playing skills (I assume because he only ever listened to Bulls on Parade) saying he had no skill playing single notes and relying on effects just like the Edge of U2 But he truly didn't understand the real talent of Tom Morello, not only is he extremely talented but he really does have smarts and understands the "science" behind sounds and manipulation of sounds on a guitar via effects/tones. These comments are so great and funny. I’m personally a guitar purist and have been playing for 20yrs. But when I heard RATM as I high school senior I was instantly hooked. Gadgetry aside, Morello is prolly Thee best riff writer since Page and Zep. Morello does say they were one of his main influences and in my mind that gives him much credit. I personally don’t like hip hop or hip hop culture but you can’t hate on him or anyone for their creativity. As for his unconventional, unmusical solos I cringe but whatever. And the only time I’ve heard him play an actual guitar chord is on the AS track ‘Like A Stone’. But Those Rage songs still hit like a ton of bricks and for that I am thankful. And for seeing a lot of younger people and new listeners on here. Awesome shit

Did I say that? Sorry, I probably meant extensively. As a huge RATM nerd and a guitarist, I try to learn how my favorite guitarist get their sounds (except Dimebag... I gave up. That shit's the holy grail of guitar tone). But I know the Testify solo is using his instrument cable, he originally did the intro for one of the Audioslave songs (I forgot, might be Cochise) with a pencil and a delay pedal... all that kind of stuff. Sorry for the misinformation.

On the maybe best rock live album ever "Made in Japan" by Deep Purple the Master Ritchie Blackmore did not use one pedal! - A Fender Strat straight into the Marshall. That is the test for all guitar players. If they then are able to create a distinctive, recognizable sound than I will tip my hat!
@TheExiledTexan
8 жыл бұрын
+Michael Haller This is like saying the true test of an F1 race car driver is an off-road rally sprint with a Subaru. Different techniques, both equally valid, are needed to successfully complete the race in each style. Same applies for guitarists. Blackmore's genre and style differ widely from Tom's, and each would seem out of place in the other's band. Tom and his pedals work well for his bands, and Blackmore's elegant simplicity worked well for DP.

Tom Morello is a good soul. Most magicians would never reveal their tricks, and would hoard them for their own personal prominence. Tom shares his tips and tricks with the world. He is by definition, altruistic, and concerned with the success of humanity. His ego is not in the way. This is made evident by the fact that he will reveal everything that he knows, knowing that someone may potentially emulate and surpass him; yet he appears to be excited about this. One of the highlights of my life was meeting Tom Morello at Lollapalooza 2003 in West Palm Beach. What a down to earth and super friendly guy with no ego. He is a true musician who cares about his fellow man and the planet. Not a lot of musicians can have that said about them. Long live Tom Morello and RATM , Audioslave , Prophets of Rage and The Nightwatchman!!!

This dude is so sick. I grew up on Rage and He's such a nice humble man. Always amazes me.
