This song has been stuck in my head since I first listened to it. Johnny’s voice is perfect for this, his version of “heroes “(Bowie) has the same quality.

I totally agree with you regarding this song being a perfect fit for Johnny’s vocal. As a huge Bowie fan, I hear a lot Bowie in Johnny’s voice here. And yes, only one Jeff Beck 🔥🤘🏻🎸

This cover is amazing. Johnny’s voice gives me goosebumps. The atmosphere is so much darker than the original, and it is so good. And the guitars just soar.

I find Johnny's voice so tantalising, because he has so many assets and they are kind of tantalisingly in an out. That deep growl, when it's totally at will will be like deep golden ear pleasure. I also think his strange accent, US South plus years of living with Brits is so interesting. Its like he has the American and British palette to choose from. This is one of my favourite songs. And wow.

I have to say this song is my favorite of their colloboration together... I really loved the chorus too. Johnny has the perfect voice for it. I like this version the best, even better than the original. I really enjoyed your take on it. Buying an acoustic guitar and learning to play it is the next thing I'd like to accomplish.

Great channel Sean. Would love to hear your reaction to "isolation", "heroes" and some of Depp/Beck's live covers like "Death and Resurrection Show." In the latter I think the vocal style is similar to this. I agree the vocal style in this track is absolutely him. And, yes, I absolutely love this song!

Just because Johnny has been playing longet doesn't make him better than acting. I feel his chording slows things down overall. It's ok during a Jeff solo to miss a few beats and then get back to fast.

I realize Johnny and Jeff are totally creativ but Does not anyone adhere to the rule that a rhythm guitarist should adhere to the rule that ( s)he sticks to the songs rhythm religiously only making temporary i dunno suspensions or some type Allowances for a solo part or riff. Anyway Johnny is all over the place and everything maybe good But NOT consistent ever!. Why does no one care about this. When he's not singing that job is to Accompany the soloist however prettily or just do background. Dozens of experts agree that's the role. If nothing else Keep the tempo up!
@SeanBennettGuitar
Жыл бұрын
I see what you mean about the rhythm. I suppose the strictness of rhythm guitar depends on the style. Metal rhythm has to be exactly how it was recorded when playing live - anything else is seen to be a mistake. Sometimes great rhythm guitar in other genres can be deliberately (but fractionally) pushing or holding back the rhythm of the other instruments. I suppose the debate is to what degree can the rhythm guitars be justified with offset timing in this situation. However this is not an apology for sloppy playing with what I’m saying - sometimes sloppy is just plain inability to play the parts. The audience who are ‘musical skill and technique’ orientated would probably be solely focused on Jeff Beck you could argue.
