This was an awesome performance! I am quite saddened to see alot of chamorro videos and the negative comments that are being said about the authenticity of chamorro dance, culture etc. At least the Chamorro have an identity, whether it be similar to our other pacific island brothers and sisters, that's what matters. Love to Guam from New Zealand!

The Chamorros shouldn’t dance if it’s not theirs. They have stole dances from other cultures. This is the issue with Guam. They just have to have a dance right? No, the neighboring islands (CNMI) live normally and we don’t cry cuz we don’t have a dance. The cnmi Chamorros are more real and authentic and we don’t even dance or chant.

@@mafuticamachile6291 Just curious, have you ever taken a class that covers culture in general? Many customs and concepts have been transmitted from one place to another. Given how similar the Pacific Islands are to one another, its not that hard to believe they'd have a mix of other cultures. I'm not quite sure what exactly you're mad about though, could you please explain it to me a little more in depth?

I like how they all have to sing/chant. Not just the band doing all the singing.

Yea, I agree. I don't know why the other San Diego "Guamanian" dance groups don't take leave it to the performers to sing. It shows a sense of pride, or some sort of understanding for what they are singing and dancing versus being clueless and dancing to a language you can't even comprehend.

Really nice performance. Very hard to organize a large group in a small space to be in sync. Great job.

Is there any way to find the words to the chants? I'm learning Chamorro right now and would love to practice these chants with the video.

They are also Pacific Islanders. Pacific islands consists of 3 which are Melanesia, Micronesia, and Polynesia. Chamorros is in Micronesia they are Micronesian, of course there are a lot of similarities in Pacific Islanders cultures.

I am pretty well aware of that. I remember watching this great Chamorro uncle in an interview talking about how he incorporated mostly Polynesian dancing to make it Chamorro. I’m trying to remember his name. I bet u guys know him too. I know we all connected, but it thought the dancing would be a lot similar to the Carolinians or Chuukese as they’re close neighbors or cousins. I mean we all Pasifikas are cousins because being Pacific Islanders but yeah. That’s what I’m trying say.
