maybe if you use white grape juice instead of soda you won't get as many air bubbles and it might look closer to the soap bar.

I just made these today to help soothe my sore throat since I have a cold! They were quite delicious! The gummy bears are of course a little hard to chew since they're frozen but I really enjoyed them. The cold helped my throat too. Thanks for posting!!! :)

PROTIP: Warm is actually better than cold for a sore throat. Cold helps for a minute but will just prolong the symptoms. Warm soup or tea helps open the throat more and promotes a faster easing of the symptoms. Also, not talking (AKA vocal rest) helps more than most people think also. And don't whisper, whispering is worse than just regular talking.

you froze carbonated cold water. That is why it is cloudy. You can freeze it hot and it comes out clear. Flat would be best, since more bubbles will form when the gummy bears are in the soda water. One last thing, is your channel name at all related to the skill toy, or is it the crafting thing? just curious :P
@robo042
10 жыл бұрын
Um, false. Well the first part anyway. Carbonated Sprite will be cloudy no matter what temperature you freeze it at. Only way to make it come out clear would be if it were flat like you said. But freezing warm or hot sprite and freezing chilled sprite will yield the same results, visually. Interestingly, they may not taste the same. I forget exactly how the chemical process works but if you pour warm soda over ice and pour cold soda over ice, there is a quite noticeable difference in taste.
@deafomega
10 жыл бұрын
If you heat it, the CO2 would release anyway, boiled sprite would always be flat Freezing hot water makes it clear. The difference in taste is likely due to the sugar syrup, which may also affect clarity during freezing I have frozen boiled sodas and gotten translucent results (They were colas though, so brown and murky anyway) But boiled koolaid comes out clear when I freeze it.
@robo042
10 жыл бұрын
Well.. not technically. You can heat sprite and maintain the CO2. But if you leave an unopened can out for a bit in the sun, it'll get hot and you can open it and put it in the tray and in the freezer and it will be cloudy because the CO2 didn't leave. But I see what you're saying though. The main thing is, if it's carbonated, it's going to be cloudy when you freeze it. Also, koolaid should come out clear regardless shouldn't it?
@deafomega
10 жыл бұрын
I have frozen it in ice cube trays and it is clouded if it was cold first. Heating the koolaid before freezing also helped the sugar dissolve evenly. To a point, you can heat a carbonated beverage without losing all of the fizzy, but once it is boiling in an open pot, it loses the carbonation rapidly. One thing I have done, is mix distilled water to dilute the sugar in the sprite. Doesn't take much, but it evens out the coloring in my experience, you still get some unclear parts, but not like this video shows. Diluting it also makes less sugar per treat :P One down side though, the gummy bears bleed a bit while the liquid is still hot...

I watched a program about how ice sculptors get clear ice and they use water that is poured hot into the molds before freezing. Maybe to get results similar to the soap photos, you should boil the sprite for a bit until it's slightly thickened then pour it into the molds hot. The heat will make the gummy bears soak up a bit and look softer and the thicker, de-carbonated Sprite syrup might be more clear.

If you boil water then let it chill you get the same transparency, what cases ice to go opaque is the impurities in the water. In this case, Sprite is full of impurities, the way around this would be to boil some water (or use distilled water) and use Isomalt to sweeten it (Isomalt stays clear), let it chill just enough so that the bears wont melt when you add them.

Actually, it's not the hot water itself that makes the ice clear. The reason you get clear ice from boiling water is that supposedly, when you boil water, you release trapped air from the water. If there is no trapped air in the water when it is frozen, the ice appears to be clear. However, some say that the results of using this method depend on how pure the water is, so I don't think Sprite according to this method would work.

to those saying its the fizz.. its not, she said she tried it flat. The problem is the water in the soda. The soap bars were clear because they no doubt used glycerine, not water, and they were hardened, not frozen..When water freezes it expands, causing fracturing in the center of the ice crystals. things that are frozen in molds allow no room for expansion but up, and they freeze from the outside in, so by the time the center is trying to expand and freeze, the pressure is forced up and outward, causing the individual crystals to shatter. Something like an icicle that freezes clear, it is because it freezes from the inside out, in layers, with unlimited room for expansion. There may be a way to do that with a popscicle (some industrial mechanized way, maybe) but im not aware of it heh. The original poster probably figured she did something wrong, and was just too lazy to try to get it "right" for her own pic, or she was deliberatly dishonest and took a shortcut to draw people to her site. Very disappointing. Im glad Tammy attempted to call her out on it, and would recommend, if she hasnt already, that she contact the etsy site owner to let her know her pictures are being used. The original crafter may not care, but then again she might.
