The national firearms act of 1934 only implemented a registry, and a $200 tax. What you would call a ban on machine guns didn't come until 1986 with the Hughes Amendment. This banned the registration of new machine gun after the enactment date of May 1986. Still to this day, lawful Americans living in 38 states can own machine gun made prior to 1986. *2:37 " In the 90s, President Clinton's crime bill introduced a federal ban on assault weapons" WRONG AGAIN! The 1994 Assault Weapons ban only restricted certain features (flash hiders, bayonet lugs, collapsible stocks) none of which has any effect on how the gun functions. Gun manufactures simply offered the same firearms without these banned features. Magazines over 10rds were still available, just at a premium price! No matter how you spin it, support for more gun regulations after the civil unrest, lock downs, a threat of de funding police, is in a free fall. Especially with Biden's failed withdraw from Afghanistan leaving US military weapons in the hands of Taliban Terrorist who are already using those weapon on their own people who helped Americans, and who do not conform to Sharia law.

Indeed it also banned some of the certain features and parts you've mentioned but many of those parts were banned because they came attached to "problem" weapons. That some of these guns continued to be sold with a modified design was merely a loophole, and a criticism of the effectiveness of the law rather than it's intention.

I hear you…AND, what counts as violations of rights (or perceived violations) is different depending on your internal “lenses”. Every human want safety above all else, our nervous system is all about seeking safety. Most humans want freedom (unless it has been squelched from them, and even then, deep inside they still want it). What defines or threatens safety and freedom is different to different people…sometimes in direct opposition. So, when your safety and freedom=a threat to someone’s sense of safety and freedom, and vice versa, there becomes a problem. It escalates to seeing the people with different perspectives/beliefs as the threat…instead of really getting that what equals safety and freedom are determined by our upbringing, our genetics, our experiences, our mental “programs”. We don’t seek to understand, but to stomp out others and their beliefs (when they are different, and especially diametrically opposed to what we value). How can we bridge this seemingly impossible gap? It’s a quandary I’m deeply exploring…

@@michaelpcoffee I guess that I’ve had patients who had their individual rights violated (ended up disabled) because others decided their rights were more important. The problem is that most humans are self biased, have tons of attribution errors, and don’t see other’s beliefs, values, and rights, as worthy as their own…unless they have the skill of equanimity totally down (which is an extreme rarity). When we set ourselves as the most important, “right” and mattering more than others, it becomes automatically alienating. This alienation creates a difficult divide. If you are at the base of a mountain and I’m at the top, which view matters more? We both will see very different things. We would describe very different things. Both would be right. However, if we insist that our view is “the view” we will create more distance… What if we considered that from a different position in the world (upbringing, genetics, environments, schooling, and on and on) it is an entirely different equation, with different variables. Given that, it’s understandable. I have worked with thousands of people, when I worked in a hospital. Now I’m studying neuroscience, and am trying to get at the root of all the “why’s” and the barriers between humans, that continues, perpetuating, on and on. I wish we could all just get along…

@@aolvaar8792 Yea, back in the days when there was no regular army and in case of war you just ordered ordinary citizens to defend the country with their own arms. But given the extreme defense budget of the USA these days, it is pretty clear that a citizen militia is no longer needed for the defense of the country. The Vermont constitution at least gives a second reason for people to bear arms (other than having to be able to take part in a militia), the right to defend themselves. The US constitution doesn't include that however.

You have to look at violence not just gun violence. Some people will murder people with blunt objects, knives, and anything you can imagine. In the marines we learned of weapons of opportunity meaning you can use many objects around you to kill somebody if you have to. If you did manage to get rid of guns all you would do is disarm the victims who are physically weaker than their attackers. To limit violence you need to look at root cause, most gun violence is gang violence and most gang violence is socioeconomic. I think we have an issue of toting the party line too much in this country. I am for gun rights but also realize not everyone can pull themselves up by their bootstraps, some don’t even have boot straps so social programs are needed. I think many who support gun rights need to realize that people born in a disadvantaged environment need to be helped and are incapable of overcoming the barriers they were born into. Many jobs that pay well require education, and if you can’t afford that education you are locked into low paying jobs. Given that many choose to sell drugs and since that is an illegal activity they can’t litigate problems so they turn to violence. This isn’t about equal results, it’s about making the starting line equal, it’s not socialism to give everyone a fair chance at the start. Most gun violence is committed by poor people, middle class people don’t commit gun violence.
@lancecahill5486

The gun is just a piece of metal (mostly). If left untouched it will do nothing and turns into dust in ten thousand years. A gun needs to be loaded, chambered and fired, all of those activities require a person. Depending on the circumstances when a gun is fired, it could be a good thing (self defense, hunting to feed your family etc.) or it could be a bad thing. Don't blame the gun, blame the people who use it to do bad things.

"For world destinations, by immigrants it seems that the USA is still a very popular destination." Lol. You lot never think this one through. Being the closest 1st world nation to all of Central and South America doesn't make the US great or happy. Just easiest to get to. "If you would be happier elsewhere, then please leave lol." The usual statement of those content with mediocrity. "We have a bill of rights and its major purpose is to check the government." Yes? Every nation has a constitution, and the better written ones do exactly that. "I say a lot of bad things about trump, but Biden is likely to go down as the worst president in a very long time" I think he still has a long way to go to be worse than Trump, but he definitely hasn't a vision for the future. The US needs people worth voting for.

I was thinking the same thing. But my way of feeling protected doesnt infringe on the rights of everyone else, my way of feeling safe doesnt criminalize millions of people and primarly used to arrest people who have had absolutely no intent of harming anyone. I think thats the difference the anti gunners need to understand, along with the fact their are coming from a place of complete ignorance and they should seek enlightenment. But i feel our media and government is mainly responsible for how these people feel i dont blame them, there has been so much disinformation and propaganda put out. most poeple are still under the impression that you dont need a background check to buy a gun and that automatic weapons and machine guns can be purchased the same way as any other gun. When ever they push this propaganda you see all americans move quickly to pass laws to protect these rights and more people buying guns.

Here's perhaps an easier way to see this: Not one judge, one cop, one prosecutor... ...not one legislator, nor even one legal document, including a constitution, serves the purpose of stopping someone intent on doing bodily harm to another; that would include murder. In fact, all these simply facilitate "justice", and that, only AFTER a crime has been committed. If you doubt, then go to the police the next time someone threatens you. 99 times out of 100, you will be advised nothing can be done until an actual crime has been committed. Some deem this fact a shortcoming in the law. I say no. The one person most responsible for your own self protection is you. That is free society.

We now have a pretty good idea of their plan. They want police de-funded and the guns removed. They want a crime wave to rip across America and they do not want the criminals stopped during the crime wave. If you have two brain cells to rub together you can see the writing on the wall. Watch Texas carefully as crime rates come DOWN once 50% of the population is carrying a weapon. IT WILL BE TOUGH to get away with a mass shooting when 50% of the people are carrying a weapon. We need to reach "HEARD PROTECTION" as Dr. Fauci would call it. Once 50% of the Texas people are "PACKING HEAT" there will be no more mass shootings. You would have to be crazy to try it.
