The Mix-Elvator TM model 634 dry-mix gunite batch plant and C-10 dry-mix gunite machine are shown on a gunite pool shoot in Roanoke, VA vicinity. The contractor on the project is National Pools of Roanoke Inc. The equipment supplier is Gunite Supply & Equipment. Gunite Supply manufactures gunite bacth plants that allow contractors to eliminate the need for ready-mix truck deliveries. The batch plant is used to mix sand (aggregate) and cement on the jobsite and deliver to a mounted gunite machine. The C-10 gunite machine conveys the dry material through gunite hose (up to 1,000 ft) to the nozzle where water is added. The nozzleman controls the water content as he places the gunite material on the surface. The water content affects the slump (or fluidity) of the material. Often, the material is pre-dampened, which reduces dust during the mixing process. Gunite Supply's hose and nozzle setup are heavy-duty, made tough to withstand the rigors of day-to-day contruction. Gunite Supply also provides a scaffolding support called the Jiffy-Jak TM. the Jiffy Jak is used to hold support boards in place within the gunite shooting area so that the crew can gain elevation to access the gunite surface. Gunite Supply & Equipment has three US locations to provide strategic distribution capabilities. The Monrovia, CA; Houston, TX and Cincinnati, OH facilities are staffed for complete customer service.

The costs of a gunite machine is far less than the cost of a shotcrete pump. This allows more startup companies to get into the business while helping other established crews keep their costs down to remain competitive. Many mid-size gunite batch plants are available for mixing materials used in the dry-mix gunite process. This eliminates the hassle and extra expense of hiring a ready-mix truck to bring materials to the jobsite. For example, a gunite batch plant such as the Mix-Elvator from Gunite Supply & Equipment will save $1700 per 30 cubic yards of material. Most contractors prefer either dry-mix gunite or wet-mix shotcrete. This is based on personal preference, the type of work being done (job requirements for concrete strength will favor the dry-mix process) how they were trained, and sometimes even because someone inherited a use machine and just "always has done it that way." Both dry-mix and wet-mix are viable option for the concrete/gunite/shotcrete contractor.
