STORYLINE:
Three people were killed and more than 20 injured after gunmen opened fire on a peace rally in Pakistan on Friday.
Thousands of residents in Bannu, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, had been taking part in a march demanding peace in the region when the unidentified men started shooting.
It was unclear who was responsible, and police said they were trying to control the situation.
Tawab Khan , who took part, said thousands of tribesmen had been participating in the march when the "miscreants opened fire."
"Our clear message to those who think due to their act we will leave our peaceful struggle, then they are fools, we will not stop our voice of peace.”
Earlier this week, insurgents killed eight soldiers when a suicide bomber rammed his explosive-laden vehicle into the outer wall of an army housing complex in Bannu.
Ten insurgents were killed by troops after the attack.
Pakistan has witnessed a surge in violence since the Afghan Taliban seized power in Afghanistan in 2021.
Most of the attacks have been blamed on the Pakistani Taliban, who are also known as Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan.
They are a separate group but an ally of the Afghan Taliban.
