I saw these in Ireland.... they were absolutely HUGE! I am in zone 6b (Virginia mountains).... it's plenty wet enough for them here but not sure if I can get them to over-winter but am going to try with a lot of protection. Well worth trying to grow this fascinating plant! I can successfully grow Musa Basjoo here which grows to enormous heights in a single season... would love to be able to add Gunnera Manicata to my unusual collection.

Gunnera tinctoria, actually. The leaves of G. manicata are flatter and less lobed. Less than 5 percent of gunneras sold as manicata turn out to be the real thing (which isn't very hardy at all).
