We should remember this is 1 gunsmith with his opinions on specific guns. This is no different than 1 auto mechanic with his opinions on specific cars/trucks. As gunsmiths we all have opinions based on our experiences. There is also exceptions to most every rule so your mileage may vary.

@@nancyoffenhiser4916 Regarding my initial comment: I understand most people are intimidated by prosecutors and lawyers. Most people will take a plea bargain or plead no contest to crimes they didn't commit due to the fear factor. That's if they can't afford a lawyer. I'm highly intelligent and rank rank 0 on the fear scale. I'm not afraid of lawyers or prosecutors. Much less the police. Most people can be facing a case against them and have a good argument on their defense, but they will have too much fear to use it, its sad, but, thats survival of the fittest. I have defeated prosecutors and police on many occasions. I'm sorry that you are a coward, but it is a fact, if the prosecutor is looking at modifications on your gun as their main evidence, that means they dont have much more. Its the defendants fault if it works against them.

WRONG: The S&W EZ is an excellent firearm for someone with arthritis. The tabs on the mags make loading rounds so much more efficient. I don’t need no stinkin’ Uplula! It’s insanely easy to field strip, clean, and reassemble. I love the metal lever that raises at the top of the slide so that even if it’s dark, I can simply run my finger over it and feel that I have a round in the chamber. I love the safety in the grip, so I don’t have to use my other hand or check or fumble for a trigger safety. It forces me to remember to grip hard and I’m set. The EZ is perfect for someone who has trouble with hand strength!

I have the Beretta PX4 Storm in a .40 with the stainless slide. After maybe 500 rounds, without ever a problem, it started mis-feeding at the range one day. I took it home, broke it down, and found the plastic recoil spring rod totally destroyed. Who puts a light weight plastic recoil spring rod in a $700 pistol? This was my CCW. Thank goodness it happened at the range and not the Walmart parking lot in a fire fight. Reached out to Beretta and they sent me a metal rod replacement. It shoots fine now but I put it away and now carry a S&W M&P 2.0 .40 cal. I just can’t regain my trust in my Beretta. It’s all in my head, I know.

If you do another video go over some DA/SA pistols. Nicely done! Sig Sauer left Germany cause they couldn't land a big contract, had some issues after they sold to Colombia with falsified papers. So there are German tolerances, Swiss tolerances and USA tolerances. If you get your hands on an old XFive or a P210 that wasn't shot a lot, that's toight like a toiger and smooth. Now not even the 'custom' shop gets close. It would be cool to talk about less known or less widespread brands like some Grand Power, Arex, Steyr, Arma Zeka or also talk about Block derivatives directly bought from an 'upgrade' company vs. buying a bunch of bits.

Appreciate you video and viewpoints. I've never felt comfortable with the Glock grip. Maybe because I'm an old poop. I used a .357 Colt Python as my duty gun in the 70's. Along with a well maintained and upgraded 1911 for off duty carry. So no Glocks, I prefer the M&P 9mm. The grip just feels right in my hand and I shoot it better than the Glock. Nothing personal. It's just about fit. Like Wrangler jeans fit me and feel better than Lee jeans. Both are good products so no arguments from me. However, last week I purchased a Shield Plus. I live in a state that allows more than 10 round mags. Which, btw DOES negatively affect my grip. So, I ordered and picked up a 2nd 13 round mag at the local Sportsman's. The kid behind the counter is darn near rabid on how much better his Glock 19 is. To the point that I finally had to dead eye him and say "You do you". The only other thing that I can think of that folks just get so worked up or passionate about was Ford vs. Chevy or Mopar, muscle cars or pickups.

I've been shooting IDPA for over 25 years and am a SO, I've seen pretty much every type and model carry guns come through. Plus I build 1911 and work on them, in amateur status. IMO, the single most prevalent issue with mass produced guns is MIMS parts. They are SO unreliable. Not a matter of IF, but WHEN they will fail, and at least is an aggravation, to a total catastrophic failure. Mostly the latter. SO, when talking about this topic, I suggest separating that from the overall function of the gun. Meaning, I can take a cheap, unreliable gun and make it reliable, BUT the overlall configuration is a whole nother thing. ALSO, are they talking about "out of the box'? I wouldn't trust ANY mass produced gun "out of the box". As a matter of course,I replace all MIMS parts with forged and polish up all mating surfaces. I have owned and shot about every make and model, including revolvers And I have my own preferences: I do not like Sigs, H&k, CZ, M9, et al, for two reasons - the bore is a mile over the grip and I hate DA/SA. I don't like Glocks for the same reasons mentioned in the video. I had a S&W mod 66 revolver that was sending fire and lead out the side of the cylinder. I shot a Ruger SP101 that quickly developed timing issues, so I ditched carry revolvers. Now, I'm old school and carried a JMB 1911 ( Colt Combat Commander, 70 series) in the USMC (I joined in 1976, at 17) for 8 years, but I can't carry a 1911 as a civilian. I carried IWB at 4:00, and found that my daily activities took the thumb safety off and depressed the grip safety, on a condition one 1911, so that''s no good. SInce then, I've switched to appendix carry and a S&W M&P9, as I love the grip angle and SA trigger. IMO, it's truly a "point and shoot" pistol. I regularly shoot keyholes with minimal effort.

Revolver guy here. I openly admit that they are my preference and I am probably biased. However, it was interesting to me that the only reason the gunsmith gave for revolvers “jamming” was because of people Hollywooding the cylinder. Anyone who seriously carries and runs revolvers knows to not slam the cylinder shut. So, if you don’t do that then things do not get bent. Revolvers can fail but they will not “jam” in the way semi autos do. No failure to feed, no failure to eject, no double feeds. It’s true that a revolver can fail to operate if there is build up underneath the ejector star or in the cylinder. But if you keep your revolver clean that doesn’t happen. It’s also true they can break and have a catastrophic malfunction that would need to be fixed by a gunsmith, but that can happen to any gun. Anything man made can break. But if you shoot your revolver pretty often, perform function checks regularly, keep it clean and make sure all screws are tight, it will be extremely reliable, and the old saying of “six for sure” will prove to be pretty true.

We are big S&W fans. But the grip safety is long and skinny, unlike the others that have a short, fat, high up grip safety like the traditional 1911. Almost every student who brings it to class has issues with it not engaging under stress. It is all easy when you are shooting paper with no stress. But in a real-life/death situation, you may not have the perfect grip. And I don't want to gamble with that situation. Thanks for watching and commenting

"I can get you to forget to hit that safety" I don't have to do anything to make glock carriers to shoot into their dash boards, feet, and take the back half of their dog's tail off, either. If we play around with the math, which scenario is more likely to happen in real life, and how much more likely? It's about 100,000:1 glock guy is going to have an accidental discharge in the real world vs guy with manual safety not being able to activate the lever when needed. Too much focus on pterodactyl attack scenarios and not enough common sense real world applications, like avoiding the gun fight in the first place and avoiding accidental discharges, which are the real world ways to avoid most of the problems. If you practice with a lever and the lever ends up costing you your life, it wasn't your day to begin with.

@@denniswerner1670 exactly, certain people whose livelihoods revolve around firearms and training become fixated on the mole hill and ignore the mountain. people probably think i am being facetious bringing up firearms training directed toward defending against pterodactyl attacks, but over the past 100+ years of semi-auto pistols with safety levers around the whole planet, the total incidents whose outcomes were determined by someone who trains with a safety lever not activating it when needed is within 5 of the total number of deaths by pterodactyl attack. the difference is statistical noise. it... never... happens... what does happen probably 1,000x a year in the US alone? glocks accidentally discharging.

@CoelhoSports

@@JamesBond-zd5jx yeah i've been through that with other people before, going over glock and glock clone market share over the past few decades. of course there are lots of old revolvers and 1911's still in active use that make the math harder sorting out who is carrying what regularly. it's a waste of time arguing glock unintentional discharges causing injury or property damage, per capita or however you want to count them, aren't exponentially higher than safety lever pistols, though. if that number was 10:1 per capita i would be surprised it was that low. i would bet it's at least 20:1.

@geaugafirearmsacademy
Жыл бұрын
Not that they hate it, but almost everytime someone brings it to a class they have at least a few times they have to fix their grip due to the design of the grip safety being long and skinny. Not short, fat, and higher up like the 1911 styles others have. Scary to think under stress you may not have the perfect grip in a self-defense situation. Everything is easy on the range with paper targets and no real stress. Thanks for watching and commenting

That is why I added a 1in.x1/8in. piece of 3M adhesive soft rubber to the back of the grip safety on my wife's EZ 9MM to avoid the occasional ftf if a high tight grip isn't used. Not everyone's web on their hand between their thumb and index finger is able to reach and apply enough pressure and movement to release the grip safety with 100% reliability. S&W denied it was a problem when I contacted them about the issue and said no one has ever complained about it. Well I told them they can't ever say that again.

Each person has to find their own "best fit." I've carried a number of different guns over the years. (Even a 1911) The Glock is probably the best "bugout" gun because of parts. I carry a Shadow Systems (G-19) as no matter what I try to carry, I just keep coming back to it. The dang thing has been flawless in several classes, IPDA competitions and just practice time. I used to love S&W, but their quality seems to have gone to crap. Giving the Canik a run now, the SS is on my night stand. Just make sure you train with what you carry.

Grip safeties: My wife, as a brand new shooter, picked up the Shield 9 EZ and fired 200 rounds through it before she even noticed the grip safety. She now has about 12K rounds through hers, had a custom Cerakote job done on it, and will 'absolutely not' upgrade to the Equalizer. When re-holstering, you can put your thumb on the back of the slide and the grip safety is not defeated... safer that way. There really are advantages, especially being a hammer fired pistol that lacks a trigger blade safety. No one in this family has ever had the grip safety keep the gun from going bang when they wanted it to. The grip safety hinges at the bottom, so if your grip is even half-assed you will defeat it. It's an effort NOT to depress it when reassembling the pistol.

@@paulmoss7940 I have shot the 9 EZ a bunch too. I WISH S&W would do the Equalizer in .45 ACP... I would carry that over my current EDC (Sig P-320C .45). The EZ is so slim that it conceals easily, but big enough that the controls aren't difficult to use and your hand isn't in the way when changing the magazine. Recoil is surprisingly light and most people who pick it up shoot it well. A capable firearm for anyone, not just those with hand strength issues.

Everyone has their opinions on this subject. I will fall back on this; it’s not necessarily the tool, as much as it is the operator of the tool. So training is more important. With that being said (I’m not discounting the fact that a quality tool is important)! The mission is also a consideration. As an example the average CCW holder is not an operator or LEO so is less likely to find themselves in a firefight. Again I can’t emphasize enough to train and be familiar with the manual of arms for the tool you choose to carry. Im a huge fan of the P80 glocks but the current political environment made me switch to Walther and Beretta depending on my seasonal environment.
