Guru Nanak Dev Ji's heart was not into farming and other worldly work, therefore, at the age of eighteen, Bhai Mehta Kalu Ji (Guru Nanak Dev Ji's Father) gave Twenty Rupees to Baba Nanak and sent him to the city to do business along with Bhai Mardana Ji.
Guru Nanak and Bhai Mardana Ji started from Talwandi towards Choohar-khaana to purchase some merchandise. They had hardly gone ten or twelve miles from their village, when they came across a group of starving and thirsty Sadhus.
Guru Nanak took all the money to the next nearest village dwelling, where he bought plentiful supply of food and water. Guru Sahib invested his twenty rupees into what we today call 'Langar'.
Baba Nanak said, "No bargain can be more truly profitable than to feed and clothe the needy" and he termed it as Sacha Sauda (A True Deal).
On this Concept and Teaching of Baba Nanak "Langar Pratha" started and is continued since then... Golden Temple became the largest Free Community Kitchen in the world that feeds around 1,00,000 people every day...
This is a video on how Baba Nanak's Twenty Rupees changed the entire world and taught us to serve humanity above all...
