Exhibits perfectly proportioned and (endearingly)diametrically opposed personality traits: frazzled, wild-eyed geek + cool, comfortable confidence. 1:37 I love playing with that dissonance where there's a cancellation of frequencies. there's like pops in between the ringing of the notes on the two strings which I call the helicopter effect. listen to someone speaking into a mic while in a helicopter with the door open, the changing air pressure gives a certain vibrato, a pulse, to the voice. you can do the same by speaking into a fan. and the fun thing is you can change the speed and duration of the pops with very subtle changes in bend force.
@orbik_fin

You may or may not find it useful to know that the phenomenon you're referring to is known as *intermodulation* Basically when the sum of 2 frequencies f1 and f2 is distorted by a stateless nonlinearity, the result contains not only multiples of f1 and f2, but also multiples of (f1+f2) and (f1-f2). The dropping low undertone at 1:53 is (f1-f2) as it approaches 0.

Great, great video~ I love your teaching style. One thing you don't mention is if the bending is near impossible, to get a lower string gauge. I played 10's for over 30 years (metal!!11!) and saw a video about who used 8's and it was an epiphany. I put 8's on the top strings and low and behold all my bends are practically painless! It's like if you run with weights on your ankles and take them off. Just something that I think a lot of guitarists don't even think about. Thanks again, sir. You are a gentleman and a scholar. And a badass.

Mr Govan is not just the undisputed king of guitar at the moment, he is also WILDLY intelligent. I didn't understand this until after watching a few videos. How he speaks, and his choice of words are as well thought out beforehand as the notes he plays. He is ALWAYS thinking ahead, and I think that is key. I truly and fully appreciate how much thought he puts into how he teaches something, even if it isn't obvious at first. The words he uses are as perfect as the notes he plays for that very reason. Thank you Sir Guthrie. I have never understood something as clearly as when you took the time to lay it out for us with the proper words and sentences.

You have a ghostly third note. If you don't want it, make the deep frequencies away, it disturbs. You can also make the high frequencies away, the deep note will stay. Suddenly there is a guy with a guitar and tones beyond a bass. I tried it, it works, with special equipment. I imitated a string bass in Folk.
