Notice how the echo is more intense when you are closer to the ground. The surrounding planters are echoing back the sound source from multiple directions and when they meet, they are combining, amplifying the original sound. A listener outside the circle, would probably be in an area where the sound waves are being cancelled out, the same principle used in noise canceling headphones. Simple explanation, but still a very cool effect.

This "center of the universe" pop culture landmark is in the middle of Boston Ave pedestrian bridge, what used to be Boston Ave between 1st and Archer streets. The taller buildings built later and the other structures are why this acoustic anomaly now exists on this bridge that once went through as a street. The sculpture, Artificial Cloud, was the 1991 creation of Bob Haozous for Mayfest. Installed in 1992.

At the center, the sound reflected by the planters arrive in the center at the same time and each of them, with roughly the same sonic signature, will reinforce each other and sound louder to the listener in the center.Once off center, there will be a time difference between the reflections, and between each reflection and source... a small difference in arrival time of each reflection will result in sonic cancellations and that's why things will sound weirdly softer when off center.Using multiple sources of the same sound to multiply output power and using time differences to shape the output projection is how line array speakers in big concerts work!

@@51-FS as someone who has been building DIY speakers and planning acoustic treatment in my home theater, I'm willing to bet yes. Current pillows are stuffed with Polyfil and should be able to absorb frequencies from 250Hz and up; the lowest fundamental frequency of a male "chest" voice is around 250Hz, so that reinforcing effect should be greatly diminished. Heck, if you line up random objects/people against the floor/planter corner, that would scatter the reflections and greatly diffuse the acoustic energy of the returning sound too.

Strange that I find this "vlog" that has not uoaded anything after this video until the same day that i visit the spot and find this video when looking for info about this... Its also the day the "vlog" uploaded its second video, 7 years later. It was built in 1991, the designer/builder has not publicly disclosed how the effect works. The best guess is the circle of planter boxes act as parabolic dishes and the center of the circle is the focal point of them. The tower is a sculpture installed after the sound sculpture that pokes fun at people looking at the fake cloud instead of the real clouds in the sky. 7 years after this upload the circle has deteriorated a lot, at some point a series of bricks were replaced with lights. There is a plan to redo the area in 2024.

The center of the earth and universe is located exactly where the Ka'bah is in Makkah. One can not dent mathematics right? The golden ratio, 1618, found in all of existence. What's the golden ratio of the Earth? Exactly where the Ka'bah is. Don't believe me? Research it yourself using the google earth feature and add the longitude and latitude of the location of the Ka'bah and you will get 1618. Most of you will still deny so just know you are only fooling yourself as one can not deny mathematics. And for those who believe, prostrate to your Lord, The Beneficent, The Merciful. Allah is The Greatest!
@asumani2657

That's a lie. It's not the centre of the universe, I'll give you 2 examples, 1 is in Dubai Mall on Ground floor Gold soul atrium, when you're in the middle of the atrium you'll hear nothing but Music that comes from the speakers at the top sides of the atrium, the moment you step even an inch out if the centre of the atrium you'll hear other noises and less music. Secondly, is the amphitheatre at Al Mamza beach park in Dubai also, when you're in the middle your voice will echo but a mere budge from the centre of the atrium will have the echos stopped. If you're in Dubai try it. So my conclusion is the design of the building determines the movement of the sound waves and echos. The centre of the universe is in Macca, the Kaaba is the exact centre of the universe.

Apparently the effect was unintentional by the designers. I could leave my house and go downtown to see it (again), but it's not like there's any sign or anything that explains it at the site (Get with it, Tulsa Downtown Unlimited!) . Their is no center of the universe basically the observers are at the center our universe is like the outside surface of a balloon and can you tell me where the center of the surface of the balloon is well you can't because their is none put a bunch of dots and start blowing it up you will see a similar situation as to how our universe is expanding at the same rate so then you take a pic of balloon in early state and then one when you have put a few more blows in it then you get on your computer scan the pics make a model of the universe early state old state and put two of the same dots together doesn't matter as long as it's the same dots you will see that everything starts to pull away from that one point it can be any two of the same dots in any area so that is how we r the center of the universe
