@@Berryations Also, you talk like it was soooo long ago. History doesn’t exist in a vacuum, it takes GENERATIONS for things to change. Harvard Medical didn’t start accepting women until the 1940’s, and it wasn’t until the 70’s that it was illegal across the USA & UK to discriminate university admission based on sex, before it was school by school, so if someone wasn’t privileged enough to be in the right place or move there, they literally weren’t allowed the education. That’s literally only one generation between my grandmother not finishing school vs me graduating from university. Those men being men was one of the the main reasons they were able to accomplish those things over women. That doesn’t mean they are less worthy of acknowledgement, the men still did the work and deserve the credit and praise, but it’s also ok for us to acknowledge the irony that most things in a women’s body are named after men because women at the time weren’t allowed the same privilege without VERY specific circumstances that were difficult. The past wasn’t the best time and it affects us all to this day, and it’s ok to say so without getting offended by it lol

I mean, it's not so much the vagina as the entire reproductive tract. And it actually is down to imperialism. Naming shit after you in science was a field of competition between the powers. And because women weren't let into academics, anatomy was all about the men and ego was an enormous factor. Both driving research and hindering the implementation of new methods as is meant you were not doing things perfectly before. However, it's not as though only men were being stupid about female anatomy. Strong ideas of female modesty and feminine mystique hampered research, too. And it is actually not just small parts of female anatomy that were discovered way late. There are *still* glands and other soft structures in the human body we keep finding tucked away in the recesses. We have only recently found more salivary glands, for example. Which were only possible to detect in 3d renders of the head where they weakly appeared among other, known glands. Really, women got away with okay names for their anatomy. Some elements got named after nations.

Men have a natural curiosity for "how things work" - they constantly take things apart and investigate to get to the bottom of it. I'm guessing all those parts are named after men because out of all the most curious people who would be cutting up a body and trying to figure out what part does what, the top 1% of the most curious people are going to be predominantly men. I have yet to meet a single girl/woman who was using any device that later broke that then was curious enough to disassemble to see how it worked.
