I loved guy, I’ve never forgotten him, I have a special place in my heart for silverbacks.

I remember as a kid my mum bringing me to London Zoo especially to see this Guy. A gentle giant. Loved it back then, but now know it was very wrong. I would hope that people nowadays are more aware of what goes on behind the scenes at these zoos.

I visited London Zoo with my parents as a kid in the 70s. Guy was there, glaring at the crowd. Every so often he'd spit towards us all gawping at him, safely behind the enclosure. Guy obviously wasn't very happy that day.

I remember seeing Guy as a child 😍. It’s a shame he lived alone for most of his life . Thankfully times have changed since then 👍 .

'We lived very close to Regent's Park zoo. We had a thing about Guy the Gorrila; he was a real friend of ours. I've got huge posters and if I go to see Guy, he goes ridiculous if he sees me. That's through years of knowing him. Marc and I used to go once or twice a week, regular as clockwork, take cauliflower and things like that. We were just two people who lived in Maida Vale visiting the zoo as far as we were concerned. But one day, we saw all these coaches outside: It must've been a school outing or something. Anyway, we were just standing there looking at Guy, when suddenly we heard this voice cry out: "Look! it's Marc! It's Marc Bolan!" I turned round and there was this whole coach load of pubescent girls running at us. Marc just looked at me, grabbed my hand, and we fled. We never went back to the zoo again.'~June (Marc Bolan's wife)

Good story Chantelle . G the G was on telly and in the newspapers all the time in the 60s , this one looks like it was made for TV , the colour hue is very reminiscent of the early PAL TV broadcast system . My friend and I went to regents Park, not to see Guy specifically , the Snowden Aviary which was much more au fait at that time , 70 but they had Guy downstairs in a cage where he had a dustbin lid to slide under the door as you went past but even if you didn't give him anything he would look you in the eyes as if to say "well it doesn't matter , I only wanted to look at you" and you'd move on. Pathetic really .

The Garden Productions are interested in using this footage of Guy The Gorilla - are you able to contact us at info@thegarden.tv to discuss who owns the copyright and can subsequently licence the footage to us?

If you don't own it tell them who does. If you do then give it to them. Remember guy as a kid. And the brass statue of guy. I am now 51. Just brought back so many memories of my childhood.

I saw Him as a Child in both the old cage Living Alone, and the Newer Enclosure with The Female Gorilla Lomi. I Find it Sad That when He Died during a Tooth Operation, that They didnt Bury or Cremate Him, but Stuffed Him instead . Lack of Dignity , Very Sad ......
