Guar or Guara is a leguminous crop which is grown to get green fodder for animals as it contains 19% crude protein so we can say, it is full of nutrition for animals.
As Guara is belong to leguminous family so it can enhance the fertility status of soils. it is grown as green manuring by some farmers. it decrease the pH status of soil and increase the organic matter content percentage when rotavated in soil before flowering stage of this crop.
It is also cultivated for seed production by some farmers.
Guara Production Technology:
Guar can be cultivated at sandy loam soils.
It is drought tolerant crop so needs very low moisture for its growth.
Seedrate: 20-25 kg for cultivation as green fodder or green manuring
10-12 kg seed is sown for seed production
Variety: BR-99 and BR-2017
Fertilizers: 1 bag DAP
Irrigation: 3 irrigations
First 15-20 days after sowing
Second at flowering stage
Third at pods development stage
Pests: Army worm, jassid and whitefly attacks on Guara crop
Harvesting: Fodder is ready to harvest 2 to 3 month after sowing.
For seed purpose, it is harvested after 4 months. Many pickings are performed in field as pods development do not occur at once.
