I first heard you on a repeater on the 6th of august 2011 when on holiday in North Devon, and I subsequently found you on you tube and watch to this day ! Hopefully catch you on air some time, keep up the good work

Hi @GW0WVL, I'm considering to buy a FT-2000. I know today there are the ft-710 ftdx-10 but I hard bad things (especially for the ftdx-10) and I already have the Xiegu G90 with the XPA125B (will use it as backup and mobile). I was looking for a base station with an access to all filters easily without navigating in menu or touch screen and one function button (I hate this since I had an IC-7410). I have some questions: - Is it still a radio that worth to buy? My concern is replacement parts if something is wrong and the fact that is low down in Sherwood table (I don't do any contest though, I'm more DXer and maybe considering learning and communicating in CW). - How does it perform in busy band without (especially in contest) the NS AC0C filter (they don't make it anymore, sadly)? - I might do the SDR mod as well. Do you have better results performance with the SDR software than the TRX itself (filters, busy band, etc.)? Thank you very much, VA2BNK, 73s

Hi my name is Hugo and I want to ask you why adding the diodes to the preamps, does it have something to do with the SDR Dougle ..? Thanks and continues with videos very well explained. Lengths

Hi Hugo, No nothing to do with the Dongle, Back to back diodes are used in many radios as basically voltage clamps, Ive used the same idea on the preamps to protect them from being over loaded , The diodes help to limit any high voltage from damaging the preamps.

I'm curious what usable bandwidth you are getting from your new IF port? In other words, how wide can you make the spectrum display in HDSDR before the signal drops off due the IF filters in the FT-2000?

Hello, usable real bandwidth on HDsdr is roughly 3 mhz , So its enough to see the entire band on any HF ham band ... Regards de Gw0wvl

Hi. I recently purchased a used FT 2000D, which the previous owner has made this mod, so I got a cable coming out of the back of the 2000, with an SMA connector at the end. I already have the RSP Duo, but I do not have a clue how the two units will work together. The IF from the 2000 travels through this cable to the one input of the RSP Duo, which is connected with the USB cable to my laptop. So far so good. What frequency shall I use on the RSP? The same as the 2000? Will this frequncy change as I change the frequency on the rig? For the moment I do not have the connecting cable from the Yaesu to the laptop. Any advice and explanation would be more than welcome. Thank you in advance for your time and answer, 73 de SV1SLB

So you are tapping the 69.450 MHz IF? What settings must be made in the software to make it all work as shown?
@Gw0wvl

Settings in the software ? No adjustments to settings in software on the FT2K ... The only modification to the radio is the IF tap .

How do you connect to your SDR is it just a patch lead from the BNC socket to RX antenna on the SDR and do you need to tune to a particular frequency or will it works as if there was a recieve Antenna plugged in. Thanks in advance Liam

The USB on the SDR connects to the USB on the PC, The Antenna on the SDR connects to the IF out on the radio... The SDR is then tuned to the same IF frequency as the Radio, In the case of this FT-2000 its around 70 mhz .. This then doesnt alter , The frequency is left tuned to 70 mhz. .. IF means Intermediate Frequency .

@@Gw0wvl thanks for that.. The bit I missed doing was tuning to the if frequency. I use SDR console and had rig control on so it just went to the frequency that I was on but still showing some form of what was happening on the band I was on.but the higher up band 10mtr i could not see any stations so i will try tuning to the if frequency and disable rig control and see how it goes. Many thanks and 73s. Liam

Hello, great videos is it possible to email me the details diodes ect. I’d like to try this my self to add an if out of had a sdr play for for a year and never used it. So it’s just 2 diodes for the preamps as theirs will be off and a jumper lead to the back ? Many thanks
