My uncle Byron Williams worked there. My uncle John was a railway man and my father Vernon Williams was driver on the GWR

If any of you get the chance, check out my Dad's book he just released. It's called 'The End Of The Line - The Last Ten Years At Swindon Works' by Ron Bateman. He started as an apprentice in 1977.

Lovely film, many facts included, which I had'nt known. I'm from LNER/ LMS metals as a young steam loco spotter. Now I'm an OAP, I cant see past the beauty and skill of the GWR. Modified Halls, 28xx's, churchward 43xx, all brilliant, and so many more super classes.

Swindon works has largely been demolished and most of the steam locos chopped up for scrap with cutting torches and melted down. Good riddance I say. The GWR was a nasty collection of scrap.

Lovely documentary. I had to giggle at the opening scenes of City of Truro. She's quite clearly running on the Severn Valley Railway but speeded-up.
