Just to be clear, what's happening to the travellers in Ireland getting evicted by landlords isn't specific to travellers. It's happening to everyone, there's a housing crisis. I feel like these shows make it out like it's just travellers getting picked on. Unfortunately there are thousands of homeless families in Ireland, living like Margaret is. It's a really sad place at the moment.

I would just like to say that over here, people pay respect to a Funeral Procession. You never break that line of cars no matter how long; as well as pulling over when it is safe to do so. It's common decency (for most).

Common sense is: equality (a religion shouldn't receive special treatment), to not throw lit on the street, to not damage the propiety of others etc. In some country (for example, japanese people care a lot about others, they don't want to disturb others, it's their concept of decency, therefore their funerals don't disturb others citizens like that. Many countries have a ritual for the decease, however, many countries don't like that people disturb others citizens. Public funerals (= presidents, ministers, soldiers, policemen, etc) is one thing, private funerals is another thing. A private funeral is a private issue. People must care about other citizens, others also have human rights. If you have a very big number of people (50, 100...people attending the funeral) you must think about how to distribute them (for example, don't let everyone be at every phrase, make some people wait at the cementery).

There are many ways of celebrating something without being a nuisance. Every belief should be treated equally. I'm agnostic. I'm not a christian. I'm not an atheist. You may think there is nothing more important than making a funeral procesion, however, there are many important things in life (for example, going to the doctor, to be called to someone's deathbed, going to work, going to school, taking an airplane etc). Everybody has reasons, problems, priorities and moral values. Paying respect to someone is one thing, giving up fundamental rights is another thing. Everybody has rights, however, no one must abuse rights. I'm talking about the importance of balance. Equality requieres balance.

Margaret from Dublin was offered at least 5 different houses by the council, she turned them down. The sad reality is that if you don't take part in the tax system.by working and paying tax, you can't really ask for a castle with a stable for the horses, that others should pay for. Pro tip: get the kids to complete school, collage and university. All that is FREE for the travelling community. Second: tone it down a notch and get a job. Third: integrate with the settled community and things will get better. Because if you don't educate, don't work and don't integrate, you can't expect more than what's given to you now.

My only question is how is she going to get childcare? Do they provide it there? Here in the U. S. You can get free child care for a set time if you work and are single, especially. I had to take advantage of it when my kids were young. It's hard being a single parent without help, but if she can get the help, then she needs to work. I had food stamps, and housing help for a while, but I also worked full time, so my taxes were helping to pay for the help I was getting. I kinda hated it, but when you've got kids to take care of and no help from their dad and family, you gotta do what you gotta do, and I can't think of any better reason to swallow my pride than for my kids.

Tony, like many Romanichal Travellers, has supported his children outside of the system without "burdening the taxpayers". At the time of this episode's filming, he had never received a benefit of any kind. This is the norm in Romanov upbringings, as often Travellers are proudly independent and highly self-sufficient. In more recent years, Colin has become an integral support system - almost like a Father Figure - to Tony, and has helped him financially, as any decent friend and business partner would. And like the true friend he is, he continues to stand by him.

I completely disagree, show after show I've seen them(gypsies) being interviewed speaking about how it's all about out doing each other, one up mans ship, no matter if it's a bride and her wedding dress, reception, etc...a man with his cars, how many children, how many horses, so on and so forth, funerals and christenings being no exception, showing off is everything to them, each one wants to be seen as the most affluent, which is a laugh, unless you've gotten education, broken free of the criminal, scamming way of making money like Alan Best you'll likely always be slugging, grubbing away in a trailer court....it is tragic a careless, wreck less driver killed him, they even talk about him succeeding in business because he hid his traveller's background, funny how they stole the music to Loretta Lynn's coal miner's daughter, changed up, inserted their words and made a tribute song

They were racing on a dual carriageway (four lanes of traffic, two in each direction), which is illegal(on roads in general), and stupid, and they basically expect traffic to yield to them. The judge gave the driver of the car a careless driving charge and a fine for the death of the horse, so whether the car just tried to pass too agressively, or there just isn't the evidence to prove he ran the sulky down, or if the judged also factored in, 'the horses never should have been there in the first place,' who knows.

The woman in Dublin, with seven kids, she had refused social housing as it did not suit her.
@daenerysstormborn775
4 жыл бұрын
No that’s completely incorrect if you were listening it was the councils fault that the house she was offered fell through! The house was temporary and they would only house her and the children on a short term lease of 6-8 months. The charity offering this emergency housing wanted a guarantee from the council that they would provide permanent housing for her after the 6-8 month period ended. The council refused to do this which is why the charity then withdrew it’s offer to temporarily house her and her children! She also stated she was willing to take a council house with fewer rooms but it was the council that would not permit that so the reason why she is still on the housing wait list and has had no offers for long term council housing! I’ve worked for a Community housing organisation that works alongside government housing and they have policies and criteria they have to abide by. A majority of people on public housing wait lists such as this lady and her family are desperate to be housed and are willing to take anything even if the house was to most of us really not suitable or acceptable! It’s usually always the case that the council/ community housing org or landlords have policies in place that they follow and therefore the final word on who they deem or decide appropriate and then who they let properties to. I’m pretty sure that as she is a single mother with 7 kids both boys and girls and receiving benefits she’d also be linked into other public or government organisations such as family and children services. These organisations would more than likely work together and with her and that’s then also going to have an impact in determining appropriate housing. If she’s linked with family and children services who’d be supporting her and monitoring the welfare of the kids, would also alongside the council or public housing org deem it necessary that there are separate bedrooms for the girls and boys be after a certain age. There would be a stipulation that boys and girls sharing rooms after a certain age be considered inappropriate. I know they would also have a minimum room requirement for a family of 8. It would be a lot different if she was seeking housing through private landlords as no red tape but then she’d have no chance of getting a private rental coz without knowing anything about her and her situation and like many people here in the comments section she’d be judged as an undesirable tenant and really would have a snowballs chance in hell of renting getting privately! Even more so if she’s struggling to get public housing I can guarantee any private landlords or real estate agents that know that or hear that would never rent to her!! So it really does all come down to policy, red tape and bureaucracy in this lady’s case and not as many seem to think her refusing offers of housing from charities or the council! As she said why would she want to be living in a B&B with 1 room rather than a house even if it only had 3 bedrooms? Also having the council put her and her family up in a B&B indefinitely will cost taxpayers a hell of a lot more money than if she were housed!! So if you do resent having to pay for families or those labelled ‘breeders’ here in the comments section 🤣 then I’d suggest you start by campaigning your local council and government to start putting long term, efficient and cost effective public housing in place! When the policy around public housing changes then maybe it won’t be such a long drawn out process and it won’t cost everyone involved so much!!

Being a Gypsy is not synonymous with being a criminal! I’m Romani and I’m a law abiding person who does his merry best to live in practice of treating others the way I would like to be treated. It’s always stunned me how willfully ignorant people can be. Roma people are a race first and though have our own culture, we are a people first thus, like everyone else, there is good and bad.

She needs to get a job and take care of her damn self and her family. That’s what parents and responsible adults do. Plenty of us don’t have help, but we do what we need to do, to get by. You're not getting this lol. Idk how people like you are so ignorant. They don't expect a free house. They expect to be allowed to settle on a piece of land the way they always have in the past IN these areas. Through generations they've limited the amount of land where travellers are allowed in an attempt to force them to move into houses. That worked and many did, but many ended up homeless because they CAN'T afford houses or don't want to give in.

We don’t hunt and gather anymore. We live in a society that absolutely can feed and house everyone, and refusing to do it hurts everyone. This woman and her kids on the street, is that good for the neighborhood? Is that good for the city, the town? It’s certainly not good for those kids. These are our fellow humans, and we depend on each other to survive these days. Refusing to help this lady just makes a net loss for humanity.

I don't know that they are 'hating' on her. But I think rather they see her as they symbol of several people that are relying on over burdened welfare system that is not free. I think in general people are tired of being responsible for other people's choices. We all have to live with the consequences of our actions, without means of shifting the responsibilities and consequences onto others, so Why do it for other people. It's not a choice to help out, it is just taken from their time, their labor, etc. Even of the money is printed via stimulus it creates inflation and creates more debt. But there are no simple solutions. And it is not easy to be on the short end.

In the United States we have Gypsy tarot readers/spell casters freely admitting they are lying and intentionally stealing their clients money with no regrets. I agree I don’t get a free house and land why do these people feel these communities owe it to them to provide it all for free? Nothing in this world is free. I feel they should build sites like mobile home parks where they can park their caravans and pay for the upkeep just like everyone else and maybe that would end a lot of these issues.
