Sailed to Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio from Lorain, Ohio. Spent the first night (Monday) anchored in Lorain before setting out on Tuesday. Stayed in the CP Marina for 5 nights and used my CP Gold Pass and Meal Pass for rides and meals. Brought plenty of food to prepare on the boat but got some good use from my Meal Pass - Perch, spaghetti and meatballs, chicken alfredo, specialty mac and cheese, brisket, pulled pork and beef, sausage, turkey legs, etc. Plenty of good choices with sides and salad.
Since I took my cell phone for a swim, I couldn't call CP Marina when I arrived, and turns out they had the volume all the way down on their marine radio, so couldn't hear my hails. So I had to dock twice. Once just to walk over and get my assigned slot, and then to move the boat to the assigned slot. That was a hassle and put me behind schedule! Turns out the lady working the desk didn't like listening the the fishermen illegally using channel 9 for conversation and turned the volume to OFF. I tried not to roll my eyes too obviously and managed to also not say anything else. I hope Jeff (Manager) spoke to her about this after I left.
I was hot and tired and sweaty and hungry, and trying to get my first meal eaten before 4:00 so I could get my second before the park closed at 8:00. Ahh, the simple things like 4 hours between meals on the Meal Plan. I guess I have it pretty rough ;-) A positive was the COLD water I had to drink due to the new 12v fridge; what a luxury!
I managed to get the boat lashed securely between two slips by myself, got showered, and enjoyed my first good hot meal at 3:45. A quickly changing weather report due to hurricane Ida had me back to the boat earlier then planned to add some lashings to the rigging and double check dock lines. The wind howled that night. It would take until Friday to get a good night sleep and finally feel rested.
Managed to get the cell phone dried out and could make calls. Although the screen was “dead” it could just barely be seen by exposing it to light at just the right angle. I use inexpensive flip phones via Page Plus Cellular and was back in business for $20 when I got home. Somehow the FOB didn’t get wet/damaged so the car started when I got back, although I had Mia bring me the extra when she came over on Friday. Not the first time I have dipped the phone in the water, but the first time I took both the phone and FOB for an extended swim.
