Oh my god that base speed thing is going to be what saves me! I was already using arm swinger and it was great for speed control but my main gripe was definitely needing to choose between moving or shooting - somehow my poke around through the options didn't uncover this majestic change (I know looked after this update at one point) and i just overlooked this, but now my game will be _so much better_. @@bassemb So I tried it today, and oh my god its fun lol. You can still peak corners effectively, you can still use snap turn, you have full weapon control, you're faster than any other movement mode when you really get it going, *and* its more immersive because you're actually moving to move in game. Thank you so much for making this video, you've made H3 more fun by an exponential amount!

Been trying to adapt to armswinger and I think it's really great for movement in the forward 100 degree arc, I find that not being able to naturally moonwalk (or more importantly, backpedal back from a dangerous corner) without having to awkwardly twist your hand around or do a full turn and run is a little annoying. This is especially so when compared to Twinstick navigation which also allows you to snap turn while moving. I kinda wish all VR controllers have more analog controls so we can have a reverse backpedal... Cool video though, in more relaxing scenes Armswinger is still awesome and a good physical workout. 💪

Yes it's quite possible that once I upgrade to a controller that has analog stick, whether Index or Rift, I'll end up switching permanently to 2-axis. Although, I like the physical involvement of armswinging

Thanks for the video! I'm 50 hours into this game, and I never worked out what exactly the base speed setting did, or that you can swing both arms in unison for running with a long gun. Having a long gun constantly rotating in front of me actually made me feel nauseous, so I'm glad that you actually don't have to do it that way!

As someone who gets very nauseous in a lot of VR games, I'm amazed how well I can handle fast and crazy movement in H3VR just by using armswing. I believe it's because my body is doing the movements, so it's just enough to trick my brain into thinking that I'm moving for real. Having a fan on in front of me helps too.

This was EXTREMELY helpful thank you. Was trying to figure out how to smoothly move around while aiming. Is there a good way to backup while aiming a gun with two hands? Maybe using rear hand and twisting backwards and using base speed?
@bassemb

hey Andrew, glad you found this helpful! Yes you can point your trigger hand backwards and use base speed to move back, it'll feel weird though and your gun may twist. Moving backwards remains Armswinger's weakness, but I don't mind as I find in real life I tend to turn around and move forward rather than backpedal, and Armswinger makes me emulate that.

5:05 One thing I figured about Arm Swinger is that if you're holding a weapon with both hands, instead of pumping with both hands like you did, you kinda revolve and swirl them both on the same axis in kind of a paddling motion, like you're skipping rope but arms are pointed inwards (or just where they were when you held the gun normally). I found it to be much less wobbly and can get kinda fast.

I'm a vet who loves VR shooters although i always felt the movement was pretty "fake". I tried armswinger in H3VR and if you have a big enough space and get enough practice in it might feel like something close to "IRL". At least significantly closer than twinstick.

Is there any reason to use ArmSwinger when smooth locomotion is a thing? Especially since I have Index Controllers and they have analog sticks? I can't think of any besides reduced nausea which isn't a problem for me, but I am still intrigued by arms swinger and I think it's silly it's not an option in more games.
@bassemb
4 жыл бұрын
Reduced nausea yes, also the main draw is the increased immersion thanks to the way it works (feels like walking / running) and even its limitation of not moving backwards easily feels immersive, since that's difficult in real life as well.

@@bassemb correct , in real life backing up shooting or not is inherently difficult except at slow speed back up with a weapon is in chased step technique so slowly to keep the attention on the threat because if you step back, the threat is real. back up fonction is more than enough.imo

I'm very curious why would you ever want to use this method over just walking with your thumbstick? Am I missing something? This seems really weird to play with and I can't imagine any advantage
@bassemb
2 жыл бұрын
It feels more natural, it's easier to control your speed, and you can go much faster with it. But it's definitely not for everyone, thankfully H3VR has lots of locomotion modes. For those of us with Vive controllers (no thumbsticks), an added benefit is that you don't need to toggle Armswinger off every time you wanna use the touchpad to eject a mag or change firing modes. Not sure if the thumbstick also does those functions, in that case it would be a benefit to thumbstick users too. But it's all down to user preference.

I feel like armswinger is a great option for most controllers but I don't think it really makes sense for index controllers as you have touch pads and sticks. Maybe swinger is more immersive but sticks give you more options
@bassemb
3 жыл бұрын
True that. Personally I like Armswinger cause like you said, it feels more immersive, for instance I don't like running backwards or strafing left/right fast, cause people don't really do that in real life
@hullaballoo777
3 жыл бұрын
So how to you go backwards without breaking your wrists? What's the best way?
@bassemb
3 жыл бұрын
With the base speed setting you can point your hand back without having to swing it. But if your play style involves running backwards, Armswinger may not be the best option for you. It tries to imitate real life, where people usually don't run sideways or backwards in combat, they tend to turn and move forward, which is what Armswinger is best at. The base speed is also good for slow sliding sideways around corners. If you want a more conventional FPS moveset, touchpad locomotion is still better for that.
@hullaballoo777
