Musicians of all genres are essential to the cultural and economic success of Austin - the Live Music Capital of the World. 9,000 working musicians call Austin home, generating over $2 billion in economic activity each year. Unfortunately, most of our musicians earn less than $24,000 annually.
Whether it’s struggling parents who have little or no funds for healthcare or members of marginalized communities facing barriers to accessing health services, each musician we serve faces a similar problem - how to afford healthcare.
HAAM (the Health Alliance for Austin Musicians) provides life-saving services to over 3,100 musicians annually, ranging from insurance premium assistance to healthcare navigation, dental, hearing, vision, mental health, and basic needs support. Our unique service delivery model leverages strategic partnerships, converting every dollar raised into $7 worth of healthcare services - improving health outcomes and saving musicians over $15.5 million on insurance premiums.
As one of Austin's most respected and trusted nonprofits, HAAM is the lifeblood of musicians sustaining their careers. Since 2016, we have experienced a remarkable 61% increase in the number of musicians we serve.
While we are proud of our success, our work is far from complete. We envision a future where all Central Texas musicians have their healthcare needs met, allowing them to focus on their overall well-being, success, and continued creativity.
Join us in keeping music in Austin alive and well.
