This is the reason why when writing wills, experienced lawyers would ask their clients questions using words like : biological, out of wedlock etc. That means in your will, you can specifically exclude non-biological children and out of wedlock children, i.e. if that's what you want.

HE did not. His son did. If the girls have been adopted during his life, he could have chosen to include them or exclude them. He did make his intentions clear by using the word “issue”. It is wrong for case law to subvert the meaning of a term that has been in use for centuries.

I am 1/3 of the way through this and it is upsetting me already! I was a late adoption also not having been adopted till I was 17 years old and he was my dad. In many ways he was closer to me then his own natural born children. He said to me once when I was helping him out of the nursing home to take him back to his home, “You know, you’re better then one of mine own.” He said as I helped him into the wheelchair. “You adopted me so I am one of your own remember.” He told me before his natural born children that he had cancer. We had a bond and a trust I don’t think he had with his kids. They were always asking for things where as I never asked him for anything. I’m going to try and finish watching it…. We’ll see how that goes.

Your situation is different from what is presented here. Your father knows you and chose you. Decedent Hadley did not choose these women and did not know them. They were adopted after he died. If they had been adopted during his life, he could have specifically addressed them in his trust. He did address it as best he could by using the word “issue“. As explained, the term means a biological descendent.

But these adopted kids were not kids when they were adopted by the son of the man who left the inheritance in a trust he had long befor past away and his son tried to legally adopt his wifes 30yr old kids to make them the legal ones to inherit his father's trust 🙄Your daddy loved and raised you as his own,these adult adoptees were Not included in the will and trust. If he'd adopted them as children then Yes they would have inherited from the trust. Sorry you lost your dad and that I do understand as I lost my daddy a year ago 😔 😪 😢 prayers to ease your sorry 🙏

My uncle died leaving millions , but there was a mistake in the wording which meant the money would not be distributed evenly . The only way to fix it was for all ten cousins to sign a document . All ten of us cousins signed . 💕

I understand the pastor’s belief that the original idea was for his family to inherit. However, you must take into consideration the crazy RI judges. Then you cut your losses. Being right is great, all things being equal but RI is a crooked state and you can’t change the whole system. At least you don’t seem to mind you lost money. Legally, it did look like that adoption was a money grab bc they were adults.

The direct descendant felt his step daughters were like his own and their kids most probably his grandkids and extended family. They were adopted because they were loved and meant to inherit. They were his family. Why would this cousin fight to exclude the adopted daughters? He never even bothered to know this side of his family before money was in question. That's just aweful! I'm glad they didnt miss out. With distant relatives like these who needs enemies.

Ron's whole argument was that Art's biological DESCENDANTS should get the money, he might of been a biological relation of Art's, but he descended from Art's sister, not Art, so using his own argument he was entitled to nothing! The right way to handle this would be to fight for the intent of the person who wrote the will. The step children were not adopted until after the passing and as an effort to circumvent the intent. Those who wanted to settle in an effort to "get something" since their motivation was only money and didnt care about intent when the will/trust was written.
