Thanks, gents, for this well-written video. So much natural beauty and history in this area. And thanks as well for the tips - it's nice to save a few quid on parking to then spend on a nice meal. Cheers!

What lush landscapes. The age of Hadrian’s Wall still amazes me. I don’t think I quite realized how large the forts were…and to still be standing (somewhat). Incredible.

The video was wonderful. The poor weather actually enhanced the views of the Roman ruins, it made them more romantic and a bit forlorn. Thanks for getting out in that wet weather for us.

Although I know of the area from school history lessons but I had no idea what extensive building work they undertook in order to protect their territory from "those Picts " the other side of the wall. The weather makes you realise how awful it must have been for those Roman soldiers stationed there far far away from their warm and sunny Italy. Makes one feel almost sorry for them. Another fascinating video and already I'm looking forward to next week's.

I thoroughly enjoyed finding out more about Hadrian's Wall! Have heard it mentioned over the years but this was a wonderful deeper dive into the history and structures and even with the inclement weather, as always, the scenery was yumming and your narrative was very interesting and entertaining as well. Thanks so much gentlemen for sharing this with us!

Yes there certainly is some lovely scenery in that part. The moody weather did give a dramatic feel. Whilst very cloudy it was at least dryish that day.

Looks like I had much better luck with the weather on my day's hiking along the wall on a trip to the Old Dart in 2007. Took the AD 122 bus from Carlisle along the line of the wall as far as Housesteads. Thoroughly enjoyed the museum and site plus the hilarious interaction with another visitor. Standing looking down the steep slope facing Scotland from the Northern Gate, I remarked to a gent similarly occupied - "I keep getting a vision of a naked Billy Connolly, daubed with woad, getting ready to attack from down there!" Only to get the thick Scots-accented retort - "It'd take more than THAT to keep us out!" Spirits thus buoyed up I slogged westward along the Wall and escarpment past the Robin Hood Tree as far as Great Chesters before cutting across country down to Haltwhistle to pick up the bus back to Carlisle. A great day out and great memories now that my legs are gone!

Im learning so much history from you two. I hadnt realised just how big Hadrians wall was. I was quite intrigued by the strange arrows on the road till I saw the " drive on the left" sign in the windscreen. 😳 I forget that a lot of countries drive on, I was going to say wrong side of the road lol which no doubt would have got floods of comments, so I will amend that to drive on the right. I have friends who often drive in America which they said was quite tricky at first. Looking forward to the next video and hopefully you will have had nicer weather, you certainly seem to have had an awful lot of rain over there this year. Cheers Cheryl

In all my years driving a hire car that is the first time I’ve seen it as a sticker on the window. Some people certainly need the reminder. Very easy to forget. The weather did improve for the last few days I think that was the last grey day we had. Apart from the odd quick shower it was sunny.

Hi really sorry you had such trashy weather during your trip-I've always found Kielder Forest a bit sterile-good for water sports like kite surfing and etc I believe though-also when its hot weather there are nasty bitey flies but the moorland is lovely and hadrians wall is always worth the trip

I had to laugh because of the sticker on the car ,"Drive on the left". Unfortunately, I think it would really help me! Why is there lace work on the seating area to view the stars? Seems kinda of a shame. Ruined finery, like we would say in the south.

How rude to charge 2 pounds for a view of Kielder water when because of tree growth there is very little you can view so I wouldn't have paid either. I wouldn't have paid at the tourist information place either just to use the loo. With the onsite cafe shut why didn't they contract a coffee caravan to make it worth stopping. My mum and dad went to Hadrian's wall in 2000 on their first visit back to the UK since 1959. How high was the wall in Roman times and I couldn't help but think of the Python movie Life of Brian where they say a long list of Roman achievements and then say "but what have the Roman's ever done for us!" As for the Gibbet English history in England is one of violence where those who did the wrong thing could expect a lethal fate and went from poor people right up to nobility. The gates you walked through were Kissing Gates but obviously the don't work for you.
